About The Position

The Compliance and Privacy Officer plays a crucial role in ensuring adherence to compliance and privacy regulations within the Yale New Haven Health System (YNHHS). This position involves reviewing and revising compliance and privacy programs, assisting in investigations, developing policies, and fostering relationships across departments to promote a culture of compliance. The officer will also provide education, prepare reports, and support the development of the annual work plan, all while embodying the organization's values of integrity, respect, and accountability.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree required; Master's or clinical background preferred.
  • Minimum four years of health care, compliance, or other relevant experience.
  • Knowledge of health care compliance and privacy programs and guidance.
  • Certifications in healthcare compliance and/or health care privacy compliance required within one year of hire.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills.
  • Attention to detail, effective report writing and presentation skills.
  • Skilled in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Project management skills.
  • Ability to research and interpret regulatory requirements and coordinate internal responses to complaints, audits, and investigations.
  • Demonstrated organization, facilitation, communication, and presentation skills.
  • Ability to prioritize and plan work independently.
  • Ability to interact with all levels of management.
  • Ability to influence personnel through a matrix organization.

Responsibilities

  • Review and revise the YNHHS compliance and privacy program and other compliance work plan items as assigned.
  • Assist and direct compliance and privacy investigations.
  • Review, revise, and develop compliance and privacy policies.
  • Improve and develop new compliance and privacy investigation and management processes as needed.
  • Develop strong relationships across the System with key departments.
  • Collaborate with OPCC team members to achieve annual work plan objectives.
  • Assist department leaders with the development of the annual work plan by proposing projects and activities.
  • Provide compliance and privacy program education according to the annual education plan and as needed in response to investigations and identified risk areas.
  • Prepare and present regular reports of compliance and privacy program activities to management and senior leadership.
  • Serve as a role model for ethical management behavior and promote awareness of the Systems Code of Conduct and Privacy and Corporate Compliance Program.
  • Actively participate in departmental and team meetings.
  • Provide input to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the compliance and privacy program.
  • Serve as the Compliance and Privacy Officer for assigned delivery network.
  • Receive, track, investigate, and resolve compliance and privacy questions and concerns.
  • Routinely round on assigned delivery network to ensure open lines of communication and perform HIPAA/privacy and information security walkthroughs.
  • Develop, coordinate, and provide compliance and privacy training to employees.
  • Coordinate with management to develop, implement, and maintain processes that integrate compliance and privacy into daily operations.
  • Prepare written reports summarizing corporate compliance and privacy activities for review and approval.
  • Lead and complete compliance work plan projects in a timely manner.
  • Support preparation for external audits and completion of internal risk assessments and audits.
  • Participate in the review and revision of assigned OPCC Compliance and Privacy Policies.
  • Assist System Compliance Officers in the development of an annual Work Plan and reporting performance indicators.
  • Participate in committees and task forces, representing the Office of Privacy and Corporate Compliance.
  • Prepare for and perform reviews, audits, and risk assessments to determine compliance levels.
  • Interface directly with Delivery Network employees to address compliance, privacy, and ethical questions.
  • Maintain current awareness of compliance and privacy laws and industry developments.
  • Participate in outside healthcare compliance organizations to stay abreast of corporate compliance developments.
