Sr. Commercial HVAC Tech

Cresco LabsMarshall, MI
$80,000 - $90,000

About The Position

The Sr. Commercial HVAC Tech is a high-level field role focused on the mechanical restoration and optimization of commercial/industrial climate systems. You will spend most of your time performing advanced "heavy-hit" repairs—such as compressor change-outs and circuit diagnostics—while serving as the CMMS lead to ensure work orders are tracked and executed efficiently across the maintenance team.

Requirements

  • Experience: 5+ years in commercial/industrial HVAC with a proven track record of "opening" systems for major internal repairs.
  • Physical Proficiency: Expert brazing skills (oxygen/acetylene) and the ability to rig and hoist heavy motors or compressors safely.
  • Software Comfort: Ability to quickly navigate a mobile CMMS app to update work orders while in the field.
  • EPA Section 608 Universal Certification: (Mandatory) Full authorization to handle Type I, II, and III refrigerants without restriction.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of job site safety, lock-out/tag-out (LOTO) procedures, and ladder safety.
  • Digital Proficiency: Proven ability to operate a mobile CMMS platform (e.g., UpKeep, Fiix, or Dude Solutions) for daily task management

Nice To Haves

  • NATE (North American Technician Excellence) Certification: Preferred not necessary. Commercial Refrigeration or Service/Installation .
  • OSHA 10 or 30 Construction Safety: preferred not necessary.

Responsibilities

  • Heavy Component Replacement: Expertly execute major repairs including semi-hermetic and scroll compressor replacements , reversing valves, and TXV (Thermal Expansion Valve) installations on systems ranging from 5 to 40+ tons .
  • Complex Troubleshooting: Perform advanced diagnostics on multi-stage Rooftop Units (RTUs) , split systems, and air-cooled chillers, identifying issues with refrigerant flow, oil pressure, or electrical sequencing.
  • Circuit Recovery & Restoration: Perform full system evacuations, nitrogen pressure testing, and vacuum pull-downs to sub-500 microns after major component failures.
  • Industrial Controls: Troubleshoot low-voltage control circuits, VFDs (Variable Frequency Drives), and economizer logic to ensure maximum energy efficiency.
  • System Charging: Precisely calculate and adjust refrigerant charges (R-410A, R-22, etc.) for large-tonnage equipment with complex piping runs.
  • Work Order Dispatch: Monitor the CMMS dashboard to prioritize calls and assign routine PMs to the team based on geographical proximity and skill level.
  • Asset History Tracking: Use the CMMS to document specific repair data (e.g., suction/discharge pressures, amp draws) to build a "digital birth certificate" for every 5–40-ton unit in the portfolio.
  • Technical Mentorship: Act as the "on-call" resource for off hour and weekend emergency HVAC facility issues.
  • Parts Accuracy: Ensure all parts used in major repairs are logged in the CMMS to maintain an accurate inventory and capture the true cost of maintenance for each machine.
