Location : This is a hybrid (virtual/onsite) position with required onsite days on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday assigned to One Energy Plaza located in Jackson, MI. The selected candidate must be within a commutable distance or willing to relocate (relocation package is available for those that qualify). General Summary of Job Responsibilities The Senior Cloud Engineer is a technical leader responsible for designing, implementing, and managing scalable, secure, and highly available cloud infrastructure across hyperscaler platforms (Azure, AWS, GCP) as well as on-premises environments. This role extends beyond hands-on implementation and includes leading cross-functional initiatives, mentoring junior engineers, driving best practices, and influencing architectural decisions. Working closely with Engineering, Architecture, Security, and DevOps teams, the Senior Cloud Engineer ensures that infrastructure is optimized for performance, cost efficiency, security, and resilience. This position plays a critical role in advancing automation maturity, enhancing CI/CD pipelines, and evolving the organization’s infrastructure toward a modern, cloud-native operating model. #LI-TR1

Requirements

  • Automation & CI/CD: Proficient in building CI/CD pipelines (e.g., Azure DevOps, GitHub Actions), including integration of quality gates, testing, and rollback strategies.
  • Collaboration: Strong cross-functional collaboration skills with the ability to convey infrastructure concepts to engineering and business stakeholders.
  • Leadership: Demonstrated ability to lead by influence, provide mentorship, assume technical ownership, and elevate infrastructure maturity.
  • Cloud Expertise: Deep knowledge of Azure services (VMs, Storage, Networking, AKS, Functions) with practical experience in AWS, GCP, and hybrid cloud environments.
  • Infrastructure as Code: Expert-level proficiency with Bicep, Terraform, or equivalent IaC tools; familiarity with cloud-native templates and automation strategies.
  • Containers & Orchestration: Strong understanding of Kubernetes, container lifecycles, Helm, and service meshes (e.g., Istio, Linkerd).
  • Security & Compliance: Knowledge of cloud security posture management (CSPM), identity and access management (IAM), and modern encryption practices.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field and four (4+) years of experience in cloud architecture, DevOps, infrastructure automation, or platform engineering [OR] Associate’s degree and nine (9+) years of experience in cloud architecture, DevOps, infrastructure automation, or platform engineering [OR] High School Diploma/GED and eleven (11+) years of experience in cloud architecture, DevOps, infrastructure automation, or platform engineering
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to report to senior management, collaborate with peers, and mentor junior colleagues.

Nice To Haves

  • Current or former certification(s) in Windows Server, Linux, or Storage Arrays preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Drive automation initiatives by designing and building reusable infrastructure components using Infrastructure as Code (IaC) and CI/CD pipelines.
  • Mentor and coach junior engineers through code reviews, pair programming, and knowledge-sharing sessions.
  • Serve as a technical advisor in cross-functional meetings, guiding infrastructure decisions, trade-offs, and implementation strategies.
  • Ensure adherence to security and audit requirements by embedding best practices into infrastructure design and automation processes.
  • Contribute to organizational standards and frameworks, codifying infrastructure patterns that promote consistency, scalability, and reusability.
  • Architect and lead the implementation of cloud infrastructure solutions with a focus on reliability, scalability, performance, and security.
  • Lead incident response efforts and conduct root cause analyses for complex infrastructure issues spanning multiple systems or platforms.
  • Evaluate, select, and implement tooling for monitoring, cost optimization, observability, and platform governance.
  • Champion DevOps practices across the team, promoting continuous improvement, feedback loops, and visibility into the infrastructure lifecycle.
