About The Position

The Sr Civil Engineer position involves supervising and participating in complex engineering projects, engineering analyses, research, planning, and design for various waterworks capital construction planning and maintenance programs. The role requires planning and directing the work of professional and technical staff, as well as performing related duties as assigned. The ideal candidate will possess education, experience, and familiarity with best practices related to project management, engineering project design and construction, and the use of project management software, preferably Trimble Unity Construct. They should be proficient in reviewing data and developing trend analysis for capital improvement projects, and demonstrate the ability to oversee, coordinate, and review the work of professional and technical personnel. Additionally, the candidate should have experience in preparing and reviewing engineering specifications and details, technical reports, and studies to make data-based decisions, and exhibit skills needed to develop strong relationships within the division and among key stakeholders to foster a culture of individual ownership and support team goals.

Requirements

  • Graduation from a four-year college or university with a degree in civil engineering.
  • Eight years of professional engineering experience, including experience in public waterworks design and construction.
  • At least three years of experience at the level of the District’s Civil Engineer class.
  • A valid certificate of registration as a Professional Engineer issued by the State of Nevada.
  • A valid Nevada driver’s license and the ability to maintain insurability under the District’s Vehicle Insurance Policy.

Nice To Haves

  • Certification as a Project Management Professional issued by the Project Management Institute, or the ability to obtain such certification.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise and participate in the conduct of complex engineering projects and analyses.
  • Plan and direct the work of professional and technical staff.
  • Conduct independent project engineering and manage contracted engineering firms.
  • Prepare and review engineering specifications, technical reports, and studies.
  • Make complex engineering computations and check, review, and design plans and specifications.
  • Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.

Benefits

  • Competitive salary of $147,131.00 per year.
  • Regular work hours of 4/10’s, 7 a.m. - 6 p.m., Monday to Thursday.
