About The Position

Staples US Retail is on a journey to establish itself as the destination for working and learning. We are looking for an analytical self-starter to develop and execute a customer-centric growth strategy for Services, with specific ownership for driving the rapid growth of Recycling, iPostal 1, same day delivery partnerships such as Instacart, Door Dash, and Uber Eats, and identifying and bringing to market new businesses that have not been identified yet. The strategy needs to be inspired by deep customer insight and market trends, negotiation, financial planning, promotional and seasonal plans, marketing, vendor relations, and execution. This role requires strong cross-functional partnership between several Staples Business Units (Store Operations, Portfolio, Merchandising, Marketing, Finance, and Digital teams), must be able to act with agility and be comfortable managing multiple priorities. As a Sr Category Merchant-Services at Staples, you will work in partnership with senior leadership to develop strategies designed for in-year opportunities as well as multi-year growth. This requires analytical/quantitative skills, attention to detail, and strong written communication skills. This person will serve as the analytical lead conducting strategic and ad-hoc analysis intended to deep-dive into results to identify issues and make recommendations on how to drive improvement in KPIs. Merchandising is a key strategic pillar of growth for Staples Retail, and this role is critical to accelerating change and super-charging this high-potential business. Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree (MBA or equivalent preferred)
  • 6 to 8 years work experience in project management
  • Strong analytical abilities, including extracting, organizing & summarizing data and drawing key insights
  • Demonstrated organizational skills and ability to multi-task
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Ability to work independently and execute across multiple groups
  • Strong proficiency in using Microsoft Office programs (PowerPoint, Excel)
  • Good verbal and written communication skills
  • Experience influencing change across various levels of organizations.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute a customer-centric growth strategy for Services.

  • Conduct research to acquire a deep understanding of customer needs.
  • Develop a realistic and effective business plan to achieve budgeted goals in sales, margin, and inventory.
  • Execute the business plan to deliver financial results.
  • Communicate strategy effectively to the highest levels of the company.
  • Monitor ongoing performance for initiatives relative to financial goals.
  • Reevaluate past initiatives to suggest improvements and best practices.
  • Work closely with vendors to influence pricing and create an appropriate customer experience.
  • Negotiate for lowest total delivered cost, volume incentives, rebates, and advertising allowances.
  • Manage and develop one direct report.
