Chenega Professional and Technical Services, a Chenega Professional Services’ company, is looking for a Sr. Bacteriology Immunology Technician – Laboratory Technician V to support the United States Army Medical Research Institute of Infectious Diseases (USAMRIID). The Laboratory Technician 5 – Bacteriology provides advanced scientific and technical support to bacteriology research programs focused on bacterial pathogenesis and evaluation of medical countermeasures, including vaccines and therapeutics. This role supports murine and non-human primate studies, performs molecular and microbiological assays, and operates in high-containment laboratory environments (BSL-2 and BSL-3). Requirements

Master’s degree in microbiology, molecular biology, immunology, biochemistry, or a related scientific discipline preferred. Bachelor’s degree with additional relevant experience will be considered.
Minimum of five (5) years of laboratory experience in bacteriology or infectious disease research.
Demonstrated experience with RT-PCR, qPCR, DNA extraction, cloning, plasmid preparation, sequencing, and agarose gel analysis.
Experience in the execution of scientific studies and plaque assays, PCR and other assays, animal procedures, collection/data analyzing, assist with manuscript development, and maintain laboratory and laboratory equipment.
Experience working in BSL-2 and BSL-3 laboratory environments and performing laboratory management functions.
Eligibility for and ability to maintain BPRP and CS-PRP enrollment.
Active Secret clearance or ability to obtain and maintain one.

Responsibilities

Perform sample processing for animal protocols.
Equipment Inventory Management; BSL-2 and BSL-3 Laboratory Management monthly.
Perform Equipment Validations and up to 4 Method Validations per year.
Perform complement fixation assays.
Perform Small Animal studies, murine model.
Perform inhibition concentration antibiotic testing.
Assist PI with Non-human primate (NHP) studies as necessary, these will support vaccine/therapeutic efforts or animal modeling efforts for bacterial pathogens of interest to the DoD.
Perform RT-PCR and qPCR analyses.
Perform Cell Biology/Biochemical/microbiological tasks. Performs laboratory tests, such as protein gel electrophoresis, western blot analysis, growth of macrophage cell lines, bacterial growth assays, live-dead cell determinations, prepares microbiological media for bacterial cultures.
Process protein and western gels per year.
Complete DNA chromosomal preparations, PCR reactions; and Agar gel analysis per year.
Prepare cloning plasmids, sequencing reactions, and plasmid preparations.
Responsible for ordering equipment and supplies. Serve as a Sub-hand receipt holder for equipment.
Perform BSAT Inventory Management weekly.
Conduct Equipment Inventory Management in BSL-2 and BSL-3.
Perform monthly Laboratory Management to include safety functions and chemical inventory.
Perform and provide support to Cell Based Assays. These assays are designed to examine vaccine/therapeutic potency and allow understanding of pathogen host interactions.
Perform macrophage invasion assays. Acceptable outputs include colony forming unit (CFU) determinations, cytokine analysis, or high-content imaging.
Assist suite supervisor with all required duties for BSL-2 and BSL-3 operations.
Review relevant literature monthly. May assist in the preparation standard operating procedures and manuscripts relating to their research efforts. The Contractor may be expected to present research findings at one scientific conference per year. Contractor will present results in written and oral format publicly and internally as requested.
Provide Bacteriology Technical Support monthly report to TPOC by the last working day of the month. Report would include materials and methods, data and data analysis and should be updated monthly. If applicable, there should be an Immunology section in the Technical report.
Other duties as assigned.
