The Sr Backup Engineer role involves the design, implementation, and administration of backup environments using various enterprise backup solutions such as CommVault, Netbackup, Rubrik, Veeam, and Druva. The position requires troubleshooting deep technical issues in backup environments and driving them to resolution. The engineer will also conduct periodic performance analysis, propose and implement backup improvement initiatives, and handle technical escalations from support teams. The role includes generating and analyzing backup reports, conducting assessments and audits, and executing incident, change, and problem management in line with ITIL standards. The engineer will engage with vendors on technical issues, track backup systems' capacity, maintain documentation, and communicate effectively with stakeholders. The position requires participation in disaster recovery exercises and working in a rotational shift model with on-call support. Familiarity with automation tools and scripting languages is essential for streamlining tasks and improving efficiency.

  • Design, implementation, and administration of backup environments using various enterprise backup solutions.
  • Troubleshoot deep technical issues in backup environments and drive them to resolution.
  • Conduct periodic performance analysis and fine-tune overall backup performance.
  • Propose and implement backup improvement initiatives to enhance backup performance and success rates.

  • Identify recurring issues and create problem incidents to find root causes.
  • Track backup systems' capacity and propose appropriate measures proactively.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date documentation of backup configurations, procedures, and policies.
  • Communicate effectively with stakeholders at all levels.
  • Work with cross-functional teams to provide seamless service delivery.
  • Participate in disaster recovery exercises.
  • Proactively identify opportunities for process improvement and automation.
  • Familiarize with automation tools and scripting languages to streamline routine tasks.
  • Migrate backup systems from older to newer generation systems.
  • Communicate project status and provide weekly and monthly status reports.
  • Stay abreast of industry trends, best practices, and emerging technologies.
  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, Information Systems, or related field; equivalent experience accepted.
  • 10+ years of experience in enterprise backup administration.
  • Expert-level knowledge of at least two different enterprise backup solutions technologies.
  • Experience managing large scale Azure and AWS native backup environments.
  • Experience in managing different enterprise tape libraries.
  • Knowledge of Windows and UNIX Server Administration.
  • Knowledge of storage, networking, and database concepts.
  • Strong understanding of networking, security, and other infrastructure components.
  • Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills with attention to detail.
  • Experience with scripting (PowerShell, Python, Shell) and automation tools.
  • In-depth ITIL process knowledge and certification.
  • Good knowledge of incident, problem, and change management processes.
  • Knowledge in using service management tools like Service Now, Remedy, etc.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Master's degree in computer science, information technology, or related field.
  • Cloud certifications such as AWS SysOps, AWS Solutions Architect, Azure Administrator, Azure Architect, GCP Cloud Architect.
