First American is seeking candidates for an engineering role in our Platform Engineering team. An ideal candidate has strong technical expertise, a product mindset, and takes a hands-on approach for driving engineering best practices. As a Senior Cloud Platform Engineer, you will help design and implement our technical architecture, software, and tooling used to deliver and operate our core, mission critical, software platforms. The ideal candidate will have a firm grasp of emerging technologies, platforms, and applications and an ability to customize them to help our business remain secure and efficient.

  • Technical Leadership: Set the example in driving individual user stories to completion from start to finish.
  • Assess and identify risks that may be present to achieving the team’s larger goals.
  • Document best practices and strategies regarding application deployment and infrastructure construction.
  • Collaborate/Partner: Work in tandem with our platform and software engineering teams and leaders to identify and implement optimal cloud-based solutions for the company.
  • Quality & Security Focused: Drive implementation of functionally appropriate and technically sound solutions meeting all quality & security standards.
  • Continuous Improvement: Assist the team in achieving ambitious goals, providing regular feedback, and driving continuous improvement.
  • You will participate in all aspects of our software development lifecycle for cloud-based solutions, including planning, defining requirements, developing, testing, and deploying those solutions with the team.
  • 5+ years of experience creating and managing infrastructure in AWS using modern cloud engineering practices.
  • Proven track record of delivering fit-for-purpose technical solutions that balance complexity, performance, and maintainability.
  • Balanced approach that integrates software engineering principles with modern infrastructure operations.
  • Strong communication, documentation, and teamwork skills.
  • Deep experience implementing infrastructure-as-code and CI/CD best practices, with a strong understanding of Git patterns such as GitFlow and trunk-based development; monorepo vs. polyrepo strategies; and workflows including code reviews, automated testing, and security automation.
  • Extensive experience managing AWS Organizations, accounts, networking components, and cloud-native services.
  • Hands-on experience with containerized solutions leveraging Docker.
  • Strong knowledge of cloud security best practices, shift-left methodologies, and DevSecOps processes.
  • Proficient in infrastructure automation and scripting using tools such as CloudFormation, Terraform, Ansible, Python, Ruby, Bash, PowerShell, AWS SDKs and/or CLI.
  • Experience in configuring CI/CD pipelines with GitHub Actions and reusable templates for application infrastructure deployments in AWS.
  • Experience in configuring least-privilege AWS IAM roles and policies, ABAC, and permission boundaries.
  • Experience in managing AWS services such as VPC, Subnets, AWS Config, CloudTrail, VPC Endpoints, Security Groups, Route 53, EventBridge, SNS, SQS, Lambda, and S3.
  • Experience in containerization technologies such as Docker, ECS, EKS, and ArgoCD.
  • Solid foundation in networking and Linux administration.
  • Familiarity with cloud security, compliance and policy management tools such as Prisma and Cloud Custodian.
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science (or related field) or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Experience in using and integrating AI tools into enterprise software development pipelines.
  • Experience working within highly regulated industries such as financial services or healthcare is preferred.
