About The Position

L3Harris is seeking a Sr Associate, Tool Design Engineer to join our growing facility in Huntsville, AL. Manual and semi-automated tooling such as jigs, fixtures, molds, mandrels, and lifting devices are all required in the fabrication and assembly of solid fuel rocket motors. In this role, the selected individual will be responsible for: Working with cross functional teams to define tool requirements, designing required tooling, conducting design reviews with cross functional teams to obtain approval of tool designs, oversight of procurement/fabrication of tooling, working with manufacturing engineers to perform functional evaluations and acceptance of the tooling, and performing liaison support for tool maintenance by identification of tool problems, design of repairs and implementation of modifications.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree and minimum 2 years of prior mechanical design engineering experience
  • Graduate Degree with 0 to 2 years of prior mechanical design engineering experience
  • In lieu of a degree, minimum of 6 years of prior mechanical design engineering experience
  • Ability to obtain a US security clearance
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in the design of tooling to support manufacturing
  • Experience using a solid modeling program such as Unigraphics NX, Pro-Engineer, AutoCAD Inventor, CATIA, CREO or Solid Works
  • Existing clearance is a plus
  • Experience working in the defense industry is a plus
  • Experience in Unigraphics NX is a plus
  • Fabrication experience is a plus
  • Composite Wind tool design and/or fabrication experience is a plus
  • Compression Mold tool design and/or fabrication experience is a plus
