About The Position

L3Harris is seeking a Sr Associate, Tool Design Engineer to join our growing facility in Huntsville, AL. Manual and semi-automated tooling such as jigs, fixtures, molds, mandrels, and lifting devices are all required in the fabrication and assembly of solid fuel rocket motors. In this role, the selected individual will be responsible for:

Requirements

• Bachelor’s Degree and minimum 2 years of prior mechanical engineering design experience.
• Graduate Degree with 0 to 2 years of prior mechanical engineering design experience.
• In lieu of a degree, minimum of 6 years of prior mechanical engineering design experience.

Nice To Haves

• Experience in the design of tooling to support manufacturing.
• Experience using a solid modeling program such as Unigraphics NX, AutoCAD Inventor, CATIA, or Solid Works.
• Experience using ANSYS is a plus.
• Experience working in the defense industry is a plus.
• Fabrication experience is a plus.
• Composite Wind tool design and/or fabrication experience is a plus.
• Compression Mold tool design and/or fabrication experience is a plus.
• Active US Secret Clearance is desired.

Responsibilities

• Working with cross functional teams to define tool requirements.
• Designing required tooling using PTC Creo and Windchill in accordance with principles of Design for Manufacturability.
• Conducting design reviews with cross functional teams to obtain approval of tool designs.
• Oversight of procurement/fabrication of tooling.
• Working with manufacturing engineers to perform functional evaluations and acceptance of the tooling.
• Performing liaison support for tool maintenance by identification of tool problems, design of repairs and implementation of modifications.
• Use finite element analysis (FEA) methods and tools to perform structural analysis of tools in order to predict internal stresses and resolve structural instabilities.
• Apply GD&T and perform system tolerance analysis.
• Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite.
• Ability to obtain a US security clearance.
