About The Position

L3Harris Space and Mission Systems is seeking an engineer to perform mechanical analysis tasks on complex systems including precision mechanisms, electro-mechanical hardware, opto-mechanical, and complex electronic packaging in a program team environment. This position is responsible for the analysis of composite, metallic, and glass components and assemblies for space, airborne, and ground-based systems. Essential Functions: Working under limited general direction and exercising considerable latitude in determining methods and approaches, performs structural analysis as part of a team to provide design guidance and verify product designs to meet structural, thermal and optical performance requirements Interpret design specifications and perform classical analysis or create finite element models of complex components and assemblies for structural analysis Analyze the models for stress, strain, displacement, modes, etc. at both component and assembly levels Prepare reports, formal documentation, and presentation materials summarizing analysis results and presenting results to both external and internal groups. Program support includes assisting with mission/requirements definition, concept generation, trade studies, design sensitivity/optimization studies, preliminary and final design, component selection, integration and test support, materials selection, CAD 3D solid modeling, design documentation and collaboration with manufacturing operations for fabrication in a team environment. Ability to obtain a U.S. Security Clearance Up to 10% travel may be required

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or other related engineering or science degree and a minimum of 2 years of prior related experience. Graduate Degree or equivalent with 0 to 2 years of prior related experience. In lieu of a degree, minimum of 6 years of prior related experience.
