About The Position

We are looking for an Applications Scientist to join our R&D/Applications team, with a focus on our line of X-ray fluorescence (XRF) analyzers in a fast-paced, multi-disciplinary high technology environment. What you will bring to the role Ideal candidates will have a background working with analytical instrumentation, familiarity working in a laboratory setting, an understanding of spectroscopic processing algorithms, and an interest in working in a wide variety of industry and academic applications.

Requirements

  • At least 3-5 years of experience, ideally within instrumentation, technology, or research industries
  • Self-starter with superior analytical and experimental skills. Must be interested in substantial hands-on work with instrumentation
  • Strong communication and presentation skills
  • Ability to deal with a dynamic environment where priorities can change frequently depending on the needs of the business
  • Ability to think creatively, work independently, take on a variety of technical hurdles, to understand and improve instrument operation
  • PhD or MS in hard science, such as Physics or Chemistry, or equivalent experience and training. BS with relevant experience will be considered.

Nice To Haves

  • Familiarity with EDXRF, especially Fundamental Parameters, is highly desirable
  • Experience programming and debugging code (especially Java and C++) is highly desirable

Responsibilities

  • Become an expert in SciAps’ analytical algorithms, calibration techniques, and spectral interpretation for EDXRF products.
  • Provide feedback to R&D and Product Management to further develop and optimize these approaches to produce higher-performing instrumentation that exceeds our customers’ needs
  • Develop a deep understanding of customer applications, including testing of metal alloys, soils, polymers, geochemical samples, and many others
  • Characterize and refine new applications and custom calibrations.
  • Write application reports and share/present to our customers and internally within SciAps
  • Review, interpret, and prepare reports of XRF data for large analytical projects
  • Support the sales team with demonstrations and training for technically challenging applications
  • Support the customer service team when troubleshooting advanced analytical issues
  • Create documentation for calibration processes and analytical Quality Assurance procedures. Ensure the accuracy of documentation as well.
  • Provide prompt calibration and analytical support for complex issues to the manufacturing department as required
  • Ability to work with other SciAps analytical products, including LIBS and NIR as required
