About The Position

The Cancer Support Services Department at the University of Miami has an exciting opportunity for a Sr. Acupuncturist. SUMMARY The Acupuncturist provides a holistic approach to the maintenance of health and the management of disease with a focus on improving patients’ and clients’ overall well-being. Th Acupuncturist practices the accurate application of acupuncture to treat and manage a variety of emotional, mental, and physical disorders to maintain patients’ general good health.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in relevant field
  • Licensed Acupuncture Physician (L.Ac. or AP in Florida)
  • Minimum 2 years of relevant experience
  • Skill in completing assignments accurately and with attention to detail.
  • Ability to analyze, organize and prioritize work under pressure while meeting deadlines.
  • Ability to process and handle confidential information with discretion.
  • Ability to work evenings, nights, and weekends as necessary.
  • Commitment to the University’s core values.
  • Ability to work independently and/or in a collaborative environment.

Nice To Haves

  • Oncology Acupuncture Certification or Related CEUs

Responsibilities

  • Conducts a detailed diagnosis and collects data on a patient’s lifestyle, diet, health history, and symptoms before developing a tailored treatment plan.
  • Focuses on manipulating and maintaining the balance of ‘life energy’ or ‘life spirit’ in the body with the insertion of needles into various acupuncture points.
  • Administers treatment over varied periods of time, ranging from one month to a year or more, depending on the severity of the condition and the patient’s reaction to the treatment.
  • Ensures all safety, infection, quality, and environmental procedures and rules are in place and used.
  • Reviews and discusses treatment options and preventative measures with patients.
  • Assesses and monitors patients’ progress, maintaining detailed and complete records of health care plans and prognoses.
  • Dispenses herbal formulas and informs patients of dosages and frequencies, treatment duration, possible side effects, and drug interactions.
  • Adheres to local, state, and federal laws, regulations, and statutes.
  • Adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets.
  • Rotate between main campus, outpatient clinics, and satellite locations to increase access to integrative care.
  • Maintain detailed documentation in the EMR (Electronic Medical Record) to track patient progress and symptom changes.
