About The Position

Lakeside HR Group has been engaged by our client to recruit a Sr. Accounting Specialist to join their team. Our client is a full-service transportation provider specializing in multi-modal freight solutions, including LTL, partial load, and truckload shipments. The business operates in a fast-paced, service-driven environment focused on finding smart, reliable freight solutions through a broad carrier network. As a Sr. Accounting Specialist you will oversee the financial and people operations of the brokerage, ensuring accurate financial reporting, regulatory compliance, and a consistent employee experience. This role manages all core accounting functions; including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and financial reporting; and serves as a strategic partner to leadership by providing timely insights that support informed decision-making. The Sr. Accounting Specialist maintains the systems, controls, and processes that keep the business running efficiently and compliantly.

Requirements

  • 3 plus years of progressive accounting experience
  • associate’s or bachelor’s degree preferred, ideally in a brokerage, transportation, or fast-paced operational environment
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Strong understanding of accounting principles, payroll processes, and financial controls
  • Exceptionally detail-oriented with accuracy as a top priority
  • Independently motivated with a strong sense of ownership over the role and department

Responsibilities

  • Manage day-to-day accounting operations, including general ledger, reconciliations, and monthly close
  • Prepare and analyze financial statements, cash flow reports, and key metrics for leadership
  • Ensure compliance with tax and regulatory requirements, coordinate with external CPAs or auditors
  • Oversee accurate billing, collections, invoicing, and freight bill reconciliation
  • Monitor AR aging, escalate past-due accounts, and support customer credit reviews
  • Manage vendor payments to ensure accuracy, timeliness, and cash flow alignment
  • Process or oversee payroll, ensuring proper classification and regulatory compliance
  • Reconcile payroll, benefits, bonuses, commissions, and other compensation expenses
  • Track PTO and variable pay to ensure a consistent and accurate employee experience
  • Maintain and improve accounting systems and internal controls to ensure data integrity
  • Support implementation or upgrades of accounting and TMS-integrated systems
  • Document and refine SOPs while identifying opportunities for efficiency and automation
  • Serve as a trusted financial partner to leadership, providing insights and recommendations
  • Take ownership of accounting operations and proactively identify risks and improvements
  • Lead, train, and collaborate with team members to support business growth
