About the Role The Sr. Accountant, Revenue will report to the Sr. Manager, Revenue Accounting and will help in all aspects of the end-to-end revenue cycle and work closely with the FP&A/Billing teams to ensure that revenue is accounted for properly. Critical to the success of the role is the ability to analyze, understand, and be able to explain revenue movement as part of the month-end financial close. To work effectively with other cross-functional teams, including Client Partners, Revenue Operations and Legal, as a revenue subject matter expert. This role is responsible for assisting in executing the company’s revenue recognition process in compliance with accounting standards such as ASC 606. The ideal candidate is highly analytical, detail-oriented, and possesses a deep understanding of complex revenue arrangements. Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA or Big 4 audit experience preferred.
  • 3-5 years of accounting experience, with a focus on revenue recognition, preferably in a SaaS, technology, or subscription-based environment. Strong working knowledge of ASC 606 and revenue recognition principles.
  • Advanced MS Excel skills, strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with all levels in the company.
  • Organized, detail-oriented, able to prioritize tasks, and possess a strong work ethic.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with Netsuite and Salesforce is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in reviewing and interpreting customer contracts to determine the proper revenue recognition treatment under ASC 606 and other applicable accounting standards.
  • Ensure timely and accurate revenue recognition for all sales and service agreements.
  • Maintain and update revenue schedules.
  • Assist in leading the revenue recognition process during the month-end close, ensuring all journal entries related to revenue, deferred revenue, and revenue accruals are accurate and posted in a timely manner.
  • Reconcile revenue-related accounts, including deferred revenue and unbilled revenue, ensuring proper documentation and audit trails.
  • Prepare and post necessary revenue adjustments, including revenue reclassifications, deferrals, and accruals.
  • Assist in the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports, ensuring the accuracy of revenue figures and supporting disclosures.
  • Provide in-depth variance analysis for revenue accounts and explain fluctuations against budgets, forecasts, and prior periods.
  • Partner with FP&A to support revenue forecasting and analysis.
  • Support external audit processes by preparing schedules and providing documentation for revenue-related accounts.
  • Ensure compliance with internal controls over financial reporting, and help maintain Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) compliance related to revenue recognition.
  • Stay updated on changes to revenue recognition standards and advise the finance team on any necessary changes to procedures or controls.
  • Work closely with the sales, legal, and billing teams to review and assess new contracts for revenue recognition implications.
  • Assist the billing and client partner teams with customer-related inquiries, disputes, and any adjustments needed for revenue transactions.
  • Identify areas for process improvement within the revenue recognition function and implement best practices to enhance efficiency and accuracy.
  • Participate in system upgrades, automation efforts, and the implementation of new accounting systems related to revenue recognition.
