About The Position

The Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority (SEPTA) is the sixth largest transportation system in the United States, with a vast network of fixed route services including bus, subway/elevated, trackless trolley, light rail, and commuter rail serving a 2,200 square mile service region. SEPTA has become an integral force in the economic success of the Philadelphia region, providing an efficient and reliable source of transportation. We are seeking candidates for the position of Sr Accountant (5023).

Requirements

  • Bachelor's or Master's Degree in Accounting.
  • Three (3) years' experience in an accounting environment.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Strong work ethic and commitment to accomplishing assigned duties on time.

Nice To Haves

  • Certified Public Accountant Certificate or Master's Degree preferred.
  • Experience in implementing improvements to existing accounting and internal control procedures preferred.
  • Knowledge of Extensity (GEAC) financial systems preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Prepares in final form: consolidated PennDOT dotGrants, Quarterly GAAP basis financial statements, audited annual financial statements, and Single Audit Report, as assigned.
  • Reconciles consolidated and payroll bank accounts to general ledger, and prepares account analyses, as assigned.
  • Prepares in final form and coordinates statistical and financial sections of annual National Transit Database Report ensuring accuracy and regulatory compliance, and prepares responses to NTD Report inquiries, as assigned.
  • Develops and implements new financial statement disclosures and accounting procedures, as required, by the GASB and other authoritative accounting and governmental bodies, as assigned.
  • Calculates and evaluates self-insurance and corporate liabilities, as assigned.
  • Prepares financial statement footnote disclosures relating to cash and investments, pension plans, claims liabilities, employee retirement benefits and other categories, as assigned.
  • Prepares quarterly and annual cash flow statements in accordance with GAAP, as assigned.
  • Prepares journal entries for pension plans, furnish information requested by actuaries, and ensures proper amounts are funded for pension plans, as assigned.
  • Coordinates auditors' management comments and follow-up on corrective action, as assigned.
  • Functions as temporary backup to the Accounting Manager, when needed.
  • Complies with all Authority and departmental safety and security policies and procedures as well as all applicable job safety responsibilities.
  • Reports any safety concerns, compromises or hazards affecting operations, the public, self and/or other employees.
  • Responsible for personal safety and is encouraged to promote the safety of others.
  • Performs other related duties, as assigned.
