About The Position

The SQL Server Database Administrator on the 2nd Shift creates basic database structures for small to medium projects, provides support in the day-to-day operational management of Database Technologies and aids in software maintenance lifecycle management with assistance. The individual assists with basic database performance tuning and consultation, database configuration implementation, creates and maintains scripts and test plan execution. The work schedule is Monday thru Friday from 6PM to 3AM Eastern Time. The internal National General job title used for this role is Database Admin Consultant I.

Requirements

  • 1 or more years of experience in setting up database clients, drivers, and utilities across DBMS environments.
  • Skilled in basic DDL operations (tables, indexes, schemas) and routine maintenance to support development teams.
  • Proficient in installing and creating low-complexity databases per standards.
  • Able to assist in root-cause analysis and collaborate with internal teams to resolve issues.
  • Collects and analyzes metrics to support capacity planning and SLA tracking.
  • Understands backup procedures and supports recovery for low-complexity applications.
  • Writes and runs basic scripts (SQL, T-SQL); familiar with automation tools.
  • Exposure to platforms like Oracle, SQL Server, PostgreSQL, MySQL; basic knowledge of monitoring and tuning tools.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with SQL Diagnostic Manager, SolarWinds, Dynatrace, DataDog.

Responsibilities

  • Assists with basic Data Definition Language (DDL) implementation, such as creating tables, indexes, schemas, and setting up security.
  • Performs basic database maintenance services for application development teams.
  • Assists with installing client tools and drivers based on established documented procedures.
  • Assists with installing and maintaining database tools/utilities to support the DBMS environment.
  • Assists in root-cause analysis on minor incidents.
  • Participates with DBMS vendors and others to determine causes and solutions for database problems/issues.
  • Installs/creates low complexity database based on established documented procedures.
  • Collects database performance and usage metrics to report trends.
  • Assists Technical lead in updating database availability SLA records as necessary.
  • Collects database back-up requirements.
  • Assists with recovery/roll-back as directed for low complexity applications.
  • Assists with authoring and executing scripts.
