We’re looking for an experienced Development Database Adminstrator (DevDBA) to support the design, maintenance, and performance optimisation of mission-critical applications running on Microsoft SQL Server. This role sits at the intersection of Engineering, Production DBA, DevOps, and Data Architecture teams, where you will proactively improve database performance, enhance development practices, and ensure SQL Server environments remain resilient, scalable, and efficient. Requirements

  • 4-5 years of hands-on experience with Microsoft SQL Server
  • Strong understanding of SQL Server internals and architecture
  • Advanced knowledge of T-SQL, including complex queries, stored procedures, and triggers
  • Advanced expertise in query optimisation and performance tuning
  • Experience working with at least one widely used programming language to understand application-database interactions
  • Strong troubleshooting and root-cause analysis skills
  • Ability to operate effectively in a fast-paced, cross-functional environment
  • Strong documentation and knowledge-sharing skills
  • Collaborative mindset with the ability to influence engineering best practices
  • Interest in understanding business processes and how they map to data models

Responsibilities

  • Proactively monitor production databases to identify resource-intensive and long-running queries
  • Regularly review key performance indicators and server metrics to uncover optimisation opportunities
  • Analyse performance issues and collaborate with Data Architecture and Production DBA teams to define and execute remediation plans
  • Partner with development teams to tune and optimise queries, design effective indexing strategies, and improve database performance
  • Provide input on SQL-related code changes as part of the code review process
  • Develop and document SQL development best practices and deliver guidance and training to development teams
  • Build and maintain realistic, automated database environments to support development and testing activities
