For more information, visit www.yesway.com . Position Responsibilities: Install, configure, and maintain SQL Server instances across production, staging, and development environments. Monitor database performance, identify bottlenecks, and fine‑tune queries, indexes, and configurations. Ensure high availability through clustering, replication, mirroring, or Always On Availability Groups. Develop, test and maintain backup, recovery, and disaster‑recovery strategies. Maintain databases supporting Point of Sale systems, fuel control systems, tank monitoring, loyalty programs, back‑office systems, and other related systems. Collaborate with vendors to support database‑dependent retail platforms. Ensure data accuracy between store‑level systems and corporate systems. Implement and enforce database security, including access control, encryption, and auditing. Ensure compliance with PCI DSS requirements specific to the convenience and fuel retail environment. Partner with cybersecurity teams to identify vulnerabilities and mitigate risks. Support developers with database schema design, stored procedures, views, and performance considerations. Optimize ETL processes and integrations for data movement across corporate systems. Assist with business intelligence, reporting, and analytics initiatives. Monitor system alerts and address issues proactively to minimize downtime. Provide after‑hours and on‑call support as needed to support 24/7 store operations. Document procedures, systems architecture, and technical configurations. Follow and participate in established change control processes.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and related experience.
  • Three to five years’ experience of SQL Server database administration experience.
  • Demonstrated experience with database performance tuning, troubleshooting, and optimization.
  • Experience supporting distributed or multi‑site environments.
  • Strong understanding of backup, restore, and recovery models.
  • Experience with SSIS, SSRS, or similar reporting/ETL platforms.
  • Ability to work in a fast‑paced environment supporting 24/7 retail operations.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Strong written and verbal communication with both technical and non‑technical stakeholders.
  • Must be able to lift 40lbs and perform physical activities.
  • High level of personal accountability, attention to detail, and accuracy.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in the gas, fuel, or convenience retail industry.
  • Knowledge of retail Point of Sale systems and integrations.
  • Familiarity with fuel management systems, tank monitoring, and environmental compliance data.
  • Experience with cloud‑based databases (Azure SQL, AWS RDS).
  • Working knowledge of PCI DSS requirements.
  • Commitment to data integrity, security, and reliability.
