About The Position

We are seeking a highly skilled SQL Server Database Administrator (DBA) to manage and maintain our Microsoft SQL Server database environments. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in database administration, performance tuning, high availability, disaster recovery, and security best practices. This is a hands-on role for someone with a strong understanding of SQL Server internals and a passion for data integrity, uptime, and performance.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field (or equivalent experience)
  • 5+ years of experience as a SQL Server DBA in mid-to-large enterprise environments
  • Strong hands-on experience with SQL Server 2016, 2019, and 2022
  • Expertise in SQL Server Management Studio (SSMS), SQL Profiler, and Dynamic Management Views (DMVs)
  • Solid understanding of SQL Server internals and execution plans
  • Hands-on experience with HA/DR solutions and replication technologies
  • Experience with Performance Tuning and Monitoring Tools (e.g., SentryOne, SolarWinds DPA)
  • Proficiency in T-SQL scripting and stored procedure development
  • Working knowledge of PowerShell for scripting and automation
  • Strong experience in Azure Government Cloud, Azure security controls, Azure SQL Database, environments
  • Strong documentation and communication skills

Nice To Haves

  • Strong experience managing and securing databases in Azure Government Cloud environments is highly preferred
  • Familiarity with Azure security controls, compliance frameworks, and identity/access management specific to Azure Government Cloud
  • Experience with Azure SQL Database, SQL Managed Instance, and hybrid environments (on-prem + Azure Gov Cloud)
  • Familiarity with Azure SQL Database or SQL Server in cloud/hybrid environments is a plus

Responsibilities

  • Administer and maintain SQL Server 2016–2022 environments across development, test, and production
  • Install, configure, upgrade, and patch SQL Server instances
  • Design, implement, and maintain high availability (HA) and disaster recovery (DR) solutions using Always On Availability Groups, Failover Clustering, Log Shipping, or Database Mirroring
  • Perform regular backups, recovery testing, and ensure backup policies are strictly followed
  • Monitor database performance and conduct index optimization, statistics updates, and query tuning
  • Review and tune T-SQL queries, stored procedures, and functions for performance
  • Troubleshoot database-related issues including blocking, deadlocks, connectivity, and corruption
  • Implement and monitor SQL Server Agent jobs, alerts, and maintenance plans
  • Maintain and enforce database security (users, roles, permissions, encryption, audit logs)
  • Collaborate with application developers, DevOps, and infrastructure teams
  • Participate in on-call rotation for critical system support
  • Write and maintain documentation related to database architecture, policies, procedures, and configurations
  • Support automation efforts using PowerShell, SQLCMD, or other scripting tools
  • Support audit, compliance, and data governance requirements
