About The Position

Under the direction of the Program Executive – Youth Development, the Youth Program Coordinator is responsible for the planning, implementation and on-site supervision of youth and family programming and events. The Youth Program Coordinator will provide regular supervision of staff and volunteers. The Youth Program Coordinator will have understanding, ability, physical health, emotional stability, and good judgment to meet the needs of the children and families participating in the assigned programs and events. The Youth Program Coordinator will lead efforts to grow youth development initiatives including camp, sports, and swim lesson programming, aligning them with the YMCA’s mission and community needs.

Requirements

  • Super Inter-Personal Communication skills-both written and verbal. Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals effectively and clearly. Excellent vendor and customer relations skills required.
  • Must have a thorough understanding of the nature of the YMCA movement, volunteers, and staff in the accomplishments of the YMCA goals, objectives, and mission in the community. Possess a concern for detail and accuracy and can manage time and delegate responsibility effectively.
  • Must be highly motivated and possess a positive attitude towards the YMCA, character development, and our mission.
  • Be at least 21 years of age.
  • CPR and First Aid certification within 30 days of hire.
  • Pass a comprehensive background check.
  • Ability to relate well to children and adults in all circumstances.
  • Ability to respond to safety and emergency situations.
  • Completes all required training which includes child abuse prevention training within 30 days of hire.
  • Upholds YMCA policies for safety, supervision, mandated reporting, and risk management.
  • Adhere to policies related to boundaries with youths.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior experience in a supervisory position, preferably in a YMCA or other non-profit is strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Program Supervision: Assist in the design and evaluation of a diverse range of youth and family programs that support the YMCA’s mission, including but not limited to, day camps, sports, youth enrichment, and swim lesson activities.
  • Support the development of family engagement events and activities to encourage community involvement and connection among YMCA families.
  • Assist in the creation and management of seasonal schedules, registration processes, and program logistics to optimize participation and resource allocation.
  • Provide guidance, supervision, and support to program participants, responding effectively to needs and behavior management.
  • Administrative Duties Manage daily administrative tasks such as attendance, enrollment, and incident reporting.
  • Support tracking of program participation data and assist with compiling reports for program assessment.
  • Maintain open and effective communication with parents and caregivers, keeping them informed of program schedules, events, and participant progress.
  • Financial Management: Assist in the development and management of the budget for assigned areas, aligning with YMCA financial policies and strategic priorities.
  • Monitor program expenses and revenue, adjusting resources as necessary to meet budgetary goals and ensure financial sustainability.
  • Supervision and Safety: Assist in the recruiting, hiring, training, and supervision of staff and volunteers, ensuring they adhere to YMCA standards and provide a high-quality experience.
  • Accurately approve assigned timecards in the required time frame.
  • Encourage a positive and collaborative work culture.
  • Member and Community Engagement: Build relationships with members, parents, and the community, providing excellent customer service and addressing inquiries, concerns, and feedback.
  • Assist in promoting programs through collaboration with the marketing team to drive engagement and awareness within the community.
  • Facilitate parent meetings, workshops, and events to foster family involvement and enhance program impact.
  • Develop and maintain partnerships that support program delivery and expand the Y's outreach.
  • Operations and Risk Management: Ensure compliance with all YMCA policies, local and state regulations, and safety standards in aquatics and youth programs, with a focus on participant safety and injury prevention.
  • Conduct regular safety audits and risk assessments and address any issues promptly.
  • Ensure facilities are well-maintained, safe, and meet all operational standards.
  • Manage risk to protect the Y’s assets and reputation.
  • Performs all other duties as assigned.
