About The Position

The Fire Sprinkler Designer is responsible for designing and laying out sprinkler systems using specialized CAD software based on the AutoCAD platform. This role involves coordinating sprinkler system piping with other building components, performing hydraulic calculations, and interpreting construction documents, including drawings, specifications, and contracts. The designer must apply applicable NFPA standards to the design and layout of sprinkler systems based on various factors such as building type, construction type, hazard classification, and architectural features. Additionally, the designer will mentor and coach new team members, work closely with the Estimation department, Design Manager, and Operations Manager, and actively participate in predesign and review meetings. The position requires adherence to safety policies and procedures, providing outstanding customer service, and identifying opportunities for cost-saving measures and quality improvement.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or GED is required.
  • Must have experience with designing fire sprinkler systems.
  • RME-G Required.
  • Minimum Experience: 5+ years Fire Protection Design experience or a Fire Sprinkler Design Degree.

Nice To Haves

  • NICET Level I - IV certification is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Mentor and coach new team members as new projects are assigned in New Construction.
  • Design and layout sprinkler systems using specialized CAD software packages based on the AutoCAD platform.
  • Coordinate sprinkler system piping with other building components.
  • Perform hydraulic calculations.
  • Read and interpret construction documents, including drawings, specifications, and contracts.
  • Interpret and apply applicable NFPA standards to the design and/or layout of the sprinkler systems based on building type, construction type, hazard classification, and architectural features.
  • Perform field checks of completed designs to verify accuracy, if required.
  • Work closely with the Estimation department, Design Manager, and Operations Manager to review the scope sheet and requirements of each project.
  • Coordinate projects to meet delivery dates.
  • Communicate with AHJs, contractors, and other trades.
  • Coordinate with team members for listing of required materials.
  • Coordinate with team members for permitting and inspection requirements.
  • Actively participate in predesign and review meetings.
  • Identify opportunities for cost-saving measures and quality improvement.
  • Adhere to company safety policies and procedures to ensure all duties are performed in a safe and professional manner.
  • Provide outstanding customer service.
  • Other duties as assigned.
