The Sprinkler Design Technician is responsible for preparing complete and code-compliant fire sprinkler system layout drawings, hydraulic calculations, and material lists for construction, tenant improvement, and service projects. This role includes some project management and works closely with sales, and field crews to ensure designs meet NFPA standards, local jurisdiction requirements, and project specifications. Key duties include interpreting architectural and structural plans, coordinating with other trades, submitting plans for permits, revising drawings per AHJ comments, and supporting field installation through clear drawings, coordination details, and timely revisions. The Design Technician plays a crucial role in maintaining accuracy, efficiency, and consistency across all design deliverables.

  • 3+ years of experience in fire sprinkler system design.
  • Working knowledge of NFPA 13, 14, 20, and 25, plus local code requirements.
  • Ability to read architectural, structural, mechanical, and electrical construction drawings.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD, HydraCAD, Revit, or similar design software.
  • Ability to perform hydraulic calculations and prepare material lists.
  • Strong understanding of construction sequencing, coordination, and field constraints.
  • High school diploma required, associate’s or technical degree in drafting, engineering, or related field preferred.
  • NICET Level II or higher required.
  • Strong attention to detail with high accuracy in drawings and calculations.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects, deadlines, and revisions simultaneously.
  • Excellent communication skills for coordinating with clients, sales, and field personnel.
  • Problem-solving mindset with the ability to identify conflicts early and propose solutions.
  • Self-motivated and able to work both independently and within a team environment.
  • Ability to occasionally visit jobsites for measurement, verification, and field coordination.
  • Must be able to pass background or security clearances if required by certain clients or jurisdictions.
  • Autodesk, Hydratech or BIM training/certifications a plus.
