The Spring Hill GPS Assistant Plant Manager (APM) leads manufacturing operations on a 24-hour, 7-day schedule, managing a large team of hourly and salaried employees across multiple shifts and two independent engine programs. The APM has direct responsibility for people leaders in manufacturing operations and for the execution of plant business processes, ensuring that production, safety, quality, cost, and engagement objectives are met, and that organizational and divisional goals are achieved. The role involves delegating tasks to key area managers in production and technical operations and is accountable for meeting production schedules, employee engagement and inclusion KPIs, and departmental/plant budget targets. As a senior manager, the APM is responsible for overall Spring Hill GPS operations and for shaping plant business strategy. The APM serves as the primary operations leader for Area Managers and select individual contributors (e.g., Plant Planner, GMS Coordinator), building high-performing teams and providing clear strategy, direction, expectations, and support. They lead and champion cultural change, identify opportunities for improvement, and drive continuous improvement to enhance Key Performance Indicators. The APM is capable of complex change management (system, culture, policy) and participates in community outreach programs, serving as a public representative for the plant. The role requires advanced knowledge of GPS machining and assembly systems and broad leadership experience across Safety, Global Supply Chain, Quality, Manufacturing Engineering, Product Engineering, HR Policy, and UAW relationships. The APM understands vital IT systems like FACS, Flexnet, GSIP, and Bauer engine test systems, using independent judgment to make managerial decisions and lead teams. They drive the development and compliance of corporate/local policies and processes, integrate best practices, and advise senior leadership on events and risks affecting organizational results. The APM understands capacity planning and can adjust to tactical changes while minimizing operational impact. They partner with executive management to develop strategic plans, guide teams in resolving complex issues, and play a key role in developing long-term strategy. The APM develops people-based resource plans, builds a performance-based culture, and engages with senior management, executives, and customers to negotiate on issues impacting the function. They align multiple stakeholder perspectives, manage conflict resolution, and maintain effective working relationships at all levels. The APM works with senior management to implement strategic plans, holds accountability for operating schedules, provides a long-term perspective, and often leads critical, cross-functional projects. They build and manage large teams, make staffing decisions, support direct reports' development, and champion large-scale, high-risk change management, modeling GM behaviors. The APM owns the delivery of critical Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) and Key Strategic Initiatives aligned with company objectives, with an impact extending beyond their department.
