About The Position

The Shade Room is looking for a highly motivated Intern to join our dynamic video team. The ideal candidate will work closely with a Senior Producer and Head of Video to edit and write copy for social-first content and ensure smooth content management for all social platforms. This role requires some understanding of social media trends, particularly within Black culture, and experience in Adobe Creative Cloud editing software. A keen eye for what drives viral content and the ability to work under tight deadlines is essential. The position doesn’t require, but will prefer candidates with on-set experience at any level. SPRING 2026 TSR INTERNSHIP PROGRAM: The Spring 2026 internship dates are March 9, 2026 to May 29, 2026. Applications close on February 6, 2026, at 11:59 pm PST. The program welcomes candidates who are presently enrolled in a college or university, who have recently graduated, or who are pursuing new career paths, including those who are not currently enrolled in any academic program. Internships are paid and do not require course credit. If you would like course credit in addition to pay, we will be happy to assist with any necessary documentation.

Requirements

  • Strong interest in pop culture, and news that centers the Black audiences.
  • Familiarity with Adobe Creative Suite.
  • Some social-first Editing Skills
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Positive attitude, willingness to learn, and adaptability.
  • Attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work 24 hours per week.
  • Although The Shade Room is a fully remote company, interns are required to work from Los Angeles, California. All housing arrangements and related expenses are the responsibility of the intern; The Shade Room does not provide or reimburse housing accommodations.
  • Legal right to work in the US.
  • Currently pursuing or recently completed a degree in Film Production, Social Media, Marketing, Communication or related field preferred but not required.
  • Open to applicants pursuing new career paths, including those who are not currently enrolled in any academic program.
  • Experience using Adobe Creative Suite.
  • Must have a working laptop and cellphone with internet connection

Nice To Haves

  • Photoshop/Illustrator Skills a plus but not required.
  • On-set experience a plus but not required.
  • Prior experience with student publications, newsrooms, campus media, social media, content creation, video editing or on-set experience is a bonus.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate closely with the Video Team to brainstorm, plan, and create fresh and engaging ideas for social content.
  • Assist with prepping original content and metadata for YouTube, and other social platforms, ensuring all appropriate tags are added and content aligns with each platform’s content guidelines.
  • Assist with selecting and editing engaging short-form content to repurpose for YouTube Shorts, Spotlight, Instagram, and other social platforms.
  • Contribute creative ideas for original video content.
  • Learn and stay up to date on current social media trends, especially within Black culture, to identify what resonates with audiences.
  • Assist with maintaining and organizing content folders and storage on Frame.io and Google Drive for efficient access.
  • Assist with writing compelling and engaging copy for social media promotional clips when needed.
  • Assist with designing or planning creative for eye-catching thumbnails and/or cover tiles for YouTube.
  • Shadow and assist with some on-location productions.
  • Other duties as assigned.
