About The Position

The Operations Engineering Student position at Tampa Electric Company is designed for college degree-seeking students to gain practical experience in the field of engineering, specifically within operations. The role involves working closely with Operation Engineers on various tasks related to distribution system protection, power quality, and reliability. The internship aims to complement academic learning with hands-on experience in a professional environment.

Requirements

• Enrolled in an ABET accredited university as a college undergraduate or graduate level in a related discipline
• Minimum GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale
• Required Degree: Engineering
• Preferred/Related Discipline: Electrical, Civil, or Mechanical
• Year in School: Junior or Senior
• Knowledge of Microsoft Office and basic understanding of power systems

Responsibilities

• Create and/or process work requests in work management software
• Estimate electrical loads for customers and determine actual or proposed field measurements
• Model proposed designs in the appropriate software to meet customer needs and ensure all results follow respective regulatory requirements
• Produce construction prints for field construction of proposed designs
• Attend weekly work scheduling meetings
• Assist TEC Distribution Design staff as needed
