About The Position

The Fuel Data Analyst Intern will support the Fuel Management System Program at Norfolk Southern, focusing on optimizing the fuel lifecycle process from purchase to delivery and analysis. This internship offers hands-on experience in a data-driven environment, working on projects that enhance fuel management efficiency. Interns will collaborate with engineers and analysts to document processes, analyze data, and test new software tools, contributing to the overall fuel efficiency of the fleet.

Requirements

• Currently pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering, Data Science, Analytics, or a related technical field.
• Some familiarity with mechanical systems and infrastructure or a strong willingness to learn.
• Basic proficiency in Excel and experience with PowerBI or other data visualization tools is preferred.
• Interest or experience with tools such as PowerPoint, Power Apps, and Power BI is beneficial.
• Strong interest in process analysis, documentation, and process improvement.

Nice To Haves

• Familiarity with SAS or similar analytical platforms is a plus.
• Ability to work effectively as part of a team with strong communication skills.
• Ability to quickly learn new software, systems, and processes.

Responsibilities

• Assist in documenting the current fuel lifecycle processes, including purchasing, receipt, delivery, and fuel efficiency tracking.
• Support the analysis of fuel burn and consumption data across the fleet.
• Assist in creating reports and dashboards using tools such as Excel, PowerBI, and SAS.
• Help validate new software tools during User Acceptance Testing (UAT).
• Work closely with team members across departments to understand system interactions.
• Support the tracking and reporting of fuel consumption and efficiency across locomotives.
• Assist in gathering requirements and contributing to the design of new processes.
