About The Position

WWAY, the ABC, CBS, and CW affiliate serving coastal southeastern North Carolina, is seeking a Sports Reporter/Anchor to deliver dynamic local sports coverage to its community. The ideal candidate should possess a passion for sports and storytelling and aspire to live, work, and engage in a beachside environment. This role is an integral part of an award-winning team, focusing on covering local sports, including UNC Wilmington athletics, high school teams, and popular lifestyle sports in the Cape Fear region such as golf, tennis, and surfing. The position emphasizes comprehensive local reporting and is not suited for individuals seeking to merely cover national highlights or work standard 'bankers' hours'.

Requirements

• strong storytelling and writing skills
• ability to stay on top of developing sports stories and schedules
• schedule flexibility to include weekends
• a positive, professional attitude
• MUST possess a valid driver's license and good driving record
• You must include a demo reel with your resume.
• DMV and criminal background checks as conditions of employment.

Nice To Haves

• Previous professional, full-time on-air experience is preferred.
• Anchoring, ENPS and Edius experience are a plus.

Responsibilities

• Pitch, shoot, write, and edit compelling sports stories for broadcast and digital platforms.
• Anchor and report on local sports segments during newscasts.
• Produce our weekly high school football highlight show in the fall and weekly high school basketball highlight show in the winter.
• Engage with our audience through social media, web content, and community events.
• Cover local sports, including UNC Wilmington athletics, high school teams, and the lifestyle sports that make the Cape Fear region a top destination—golf, tennis, surfing, and more!
