About The Position

The Sports Performance Specialist at Nationwide Children's Hospital is responsible for developing, implementing, and monitoring sports performance services. This role focuses on providing age-appropriate training to clients aged 5 to 21, primarily targeting middle and high school students. The specialist will also assist in managing sports performance facilities and ensure compliance with regulatory standards while participating in clinical research and quality improvement initiatives.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a health or exercise related field, required.
  • Master's degree, preferred.
  • Valid Ohio driver's license and proof of auto insurance as required by hospital policy.
  • CPR certification, required.
  • National Strength & Conditioning Association and/or American College of Sports Medicine certification, preferred.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology.
  • Knowledge of sports performance training methods and equipment.
  • Ability to lead large group training sessions.
  • Knowledge of OHSAA and NCAA rules and regulations.
  • 2 years of related experience preferred, including working with athletic and youth populations.

Responsibilities

  • Develops and maintains relationships with community coaches, parents, athletic trainers, physical therapists, and physicians to establish referral patterns to the program.
  • Designs, implements, and monitors age-appropriate injury prevention and performance enhancement programs for sports medicine clientele, schools, interscholastic teams, and community youth organizations.
  • Communicates with children on a level that they'll understand with instruction, cueing, and error correction.
  • Coordinates transition of student-athlete rehabilitation to performance training with sports medicine staff as needed.
  • Assists with coordinating, maintaining, and staffing of weight room and performance facilities; assists in identifying and purchasing needed equipment; assists in scheduling training for various athletic programs.
