About The Position

At the University of Redlands, the Sports Performance Coach plays a critical role in supporting the health, development, and performance of varsity student-athletes, while contributing to the mission of the Department of Athletics and Physical Education. Reporting to the Associate Athletic Director, Internal Operations, the Sports Performance Coach is responsible for the design, implementation, and monitoring of evidence-based sport performance programs across designated varsity sports. This position collaborates closely with Sports Medicine staff, coaching staff, and the Fitness Center Director to create comprehensive, individualized, and team-based performance programs. Responsibilities also include maintaining compliance with all University, NCAA, and SCIAC rules, overseeing the safe use of performance technologies and equipment, and contributing to student-athlete education on training, injury prevention, and performance optimization. The Sports Performance Coach also plays a campus-wide role by assisting with Fitness Center operations and teaching physical education activity courses, ensuring a positive and safe fitness environment for the broader student community. The position requires a strong knowledge of sport-specific conditioning, injury prevention protocols, and NCAA health and safety guidelines, as well as the ability to mentor and guide students in both performance and academic contexts.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree.
  • Minimum two years of sports performance experience.
  • CSCS (Certified Strength & Conditioning Specialist) or NSCA-CPT certification (current).
  • Knowledge of NCAA Division III philosophy and the role of athletics in a liberal arts academic setting.
  • Expertise in evidence-based strength and conditioning, sport-specific training, and injury prevention.
  • Ability to evaluate performance data, interpret results, and adjust programs accordingly.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills; ability to collaborate effectively with coaching, sports medicine, and academic staff.
  • Strong organizational and problem-solving skills; ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Commitment to student development, academic-athletic balance, and the values of equity, diversity, and inclusion.
  • Knowledge of NCAA and SCIAC compliance and health/safety standards.

Responsibilities

  • Creation, implementation and supervision of sport performance programs for designated varsity intercollegiate athletic programs.
  • Implementation of an evidence-based training program to optimize performance and decrease injury potential, including sport-specific conditioning programs, teaching proper resistance training, speed and agility technique with an emphasis on safety at all times
  • Collaboration with Sports Medicine and coaching staff of assigned teams to identify physical imbalances, injury trends specific to sport, as well as other various opportunities to enhance performance to deliver a comprehensive training program for student-athletes
  • Collaborate with Sports Medicine staff to determine best practices to impact performance of student-athletes as well as return-to-play protocols.
  • Evaluate and maintain performance records and monitor progress of assigned student-athletes.
  • Coordinate use of technologies and services; oversee collection and analysis of data, prepare and present materials to utilize data and information to improve performance.
  • Stay current with knowledge of and be in compliance with NCAA Catastrophic injury and death prevention recommendations, including by not limited to acclimatization methods and emergency action plans and development of strong working relationship with the University’s NCAA Athletics Healthcare Administrator
  • Assist Fitness Center Director with the oversight for the daily operations of the campus-wide Fitness Center
  • Collaborate with other Sports Performance coaches on planning and execution of sports performance program social media sites (i.e. Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, etc.)
  • Teach physical education activity courses in accordance with assigned load during the academic year.
  • Function as an active team member of the Department of Intercollegiate Athletics
