Provides officiating for youth and adult sports games. Specialist level Sports Officials require specific training beyond the general understanding of the sport being officiated. TYPICAL QUALIFICATIONS: KNOWLEDGE: Thorough knowledge of city and department rules and regulations; knowledge of specific sports program rules and interpretations. Must maintain current certifications or required trainings in order to officiate. SKILL: Demonstrated skill in the operation of equipment necessary to perform the functions of the job. ABILITY: Ability to enforce rules and regulations firmly, tactfully and impartially; control large groups of people; follow written and verbal instructions; remain current rules of specific sports; communicate effectively to the participants; to analyze situations quickly and objectively and to determine proper course of action to be taken; to work with little or no supervision, as necessary; analyze and assess facility, equipment and weather safety hazards; write incident and accident reports, as necessary; learn and adhere to the facility emergency procedures; to establish and maintain effective working relationships with the public; pass basic sports understanding test; successfully pass police check for offenses that would prohibit working with kids or adults. TRAINING: Specialty certifications or trainings required. EXPERIENCE: Some prior working experience, preferably 2 years and increased level of competitiveness, or any equivalent combination of training and experience that provides evidence of required knowledge, skills and abilities.
