About The Position

The Sports Official plays a crucial role in overseeing both pre-race and post-race activities. This includes investigating penalties, making rulings, and ensuring that all decisions are properly evaluated. Additionally, the position is responsible for confirming the eligibility of the driver, trainer, and horse to participate in the race.

Requirements

• At least 1 year of racing experience.
• Knowledge of the rules of racing.

Responsibilities

• Post notices, penalties, rulings, and decisions.
• Supervise the opening of the Declaration Box and verify the number of entries.
• Assist the Presiding Judge with scheduling hearings, holding driver meetings, and observing driver and horse performances.
• Identify and address any violations of racing rules.
• Handle complaints of fouls and conduct investigations into violations and acts of cruelty toward horses.
• Place horses on the Steward’s list and establish the official order of finish after each race.
• Examine claims entered and collect outstanding fines.
• Officiate at County Fairs and attend hearings as directed by the Presiding Judge.
• Evaluate prospective drivers for licensing and qualify horses for competitive racing.
• Answer public questions and decide on Racing Commission License eligibility for drivers/trainers.
• Determine the eligibility of horses to participate in races.
