About The Position

The Sports, Health & Life Skills Coordinator is responsible for the planning, implementation, and facilitation of comprehensive programs that promote physical fitness, healthy living, and life skills development for Club members. Under the direction of the Branch Director and in collaboration with the Sports League Director, this role delivers high-quality, safe, and engaging experiences that align with the Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Scottsdale’s mission, vision, and values. This position oversees sports programming and leagues, health education initiatives, and life skills development, ensuring all activities are inclusive, outcome-driven, and responsive to member needs. Responsibilities include program development and evaluation, staff and volunteer supervision, budget management, community engagement, and maintaining safe and organized program areas.

Requirements

  • Minimum 2 years’ work experience in youth development or related field.
  • General understanding of alcohol/drug abuse prevention and volunteer service field.
  • Ability to multitask and adapt to Club’s changing needs.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal and cooperative working skills.
  • Must be proficient in the use of Microsoft Suite and be comfortable adapting to new technology.
  • Ability to earn and maintain CPR and First Aide certifications.
  • Maintains a valid driver’s license and meets eligibility requirements to drive Club vehicles.
  • Flawless ethics and integrity.
  • Safety oriented mindset.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.
  • Direct youth programming experience.
  • Experience working in a non-profit setting.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, develop, implement, and evaluate sports, health, and life skills programs that align with BGCS’s Healthy Game Changers initiative and youth development strategy.
  • Manage and deliver programs such as T.R.A.I.L.S, Smart Moves, Meth SMART, and Circle of Life.
  • Oversee sports league operations including scheduling, registration, coaching, and game-day support.
  • Maintain accurate records and reports for all programs, including attendance, participation, outcomes, and grant-related documentation.
  • Monitor and adapt program materials to ensure effectiveness and accessibility.
  • Promote programs within the community and build relationships with tribal leadership, local schools, athletic organizations, and prevention providers.
  • Communicate regularly with tribal and community stakeholders to share program progress and outcomes.
  • Recruit, train, supervise, and evaluate coaches, officials, scorekeepers, and program volunteers.
  • Support staff and volunteers with training focused on coaching, behavior management, and youth engagement.
  • Foster a dynamic, positive work environment for part-time staff, providing coaching and development opportunities.
  • Ensure all program areas are safe, clean, and organized.
  • Maintain equipment and property in good working order.
  • Implement and enforce BGCS policies and procedures.
  • Use active supervision and positive discipline techniques to manage member behavior.
  • Demonstrate sound judgment and respond effectively in emergency situations.
  • Uphold and promote the culture, mission, values, and core beliefs of BGCS.
  • Create an inclusive, welcoming, and respectful environment for all members.
  • Provide quarterly updates, including photos and stories, for newsletters and websites.
  • Purchase supplies within budget and with appropriate approvals.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
