About The Position

Under the supervision of the designated supervisor, and in harmony with the mission and purpose of the established policies and goals of the YMCA of the Virginia Peninsulas, the Youth Program Coordinator is responsible for assisting in planning and staffing of the assigned youth programs. With an emphasis on ensuring the highest quality service to members and guests, the Youth Sports Coordinator will work closely with other center leaders in efforts to welcome, connect, support, and engage all members and staff.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 20 years of age.
  • Minimum of 1 year experience in related field; YMCA experience preferred.
  • Minimum of 1 year supervisory experience preferred.
  • Certification in CPR/First Aid/AED/O2 required within 60 days hire.
  • Complete and maintain required trainings to include but not limited to: New Employee Orientation (NEO), Bloodborne Pathogens, Child Abuse Prevention (CAP), and Sexual Harassment upon hire and annually thereafter.
  • Satisfactory completion of a criminal background check and Child Protective Services check.
  • Ability to plan, lead and participate in activities.
  • Ability to communicate and work with assigned ages and skill levels and provide necessary instruction to participants.
  • Ability to observe participants, enforce appropriate safety regulations and emergency procedures, and apply appropriate behavior-management techniques.
  • Visual and auditory ability to identify and respond to environmental and other hazards related to assigned activities.
  • Physical ability to respond appropriately to emergencies and those situations requiring first aid.
  • Physical strength and endurance required to maintain constant supervision of children.
  • Employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 45 pounds.

Responsibilities

  • Support the mission, vision and goals of the YMCA.
  • Promote a professional work environment through character development by modeling the values of caring, honesty, respect and responsibility.
  • Lead in a manner that advances our cause to strengthen the foundations of community through programs that focus on youth development, healthy living and social responsibility.
  • Lead the curriculum implementation and plan daily activities for assigned programs.
  • Model for staff how to lead daily activities with children in an appropriate, approved manner to ensure a positive experience.
  • Maintain a positive and respectful manner of communication with parents.
  • Assist in recruiting, hiring and training staff and/or volunteers for assigned programs.
  • Assist in weekly collections of program payments and support fiscally responsible programs.
  • Serve as a program lead in assigned programs and maintain proper documentation to meet or exceed state licensing requirements.
  • Promote and participate in YMCA fundraising efforts to include the Annual Support Campaign.
  • Act as a leader in emergency situations.
  • Report any accidents or incidents according to Emergency Communication Action Plan.
  • Ensure all members, guests, and program participants are in a safe environment and actively follow branch Emergency Operations Plan (EOP).
  • Attend staff meetings and trainings as scheduled.
  • Wear staff uniform and name tag, or professional attire when appropriate.
  • Follow department Association Standards.
  • Carry out other related duties as deemed necessary by the Youth and Family Services Department to ensure an excellent member experience.
