About The Position

Under the direct supervision of the Sports Camp Director, Athletics Manager, Athletics Supervisor and Athletics Assistant, the Summer Sports Camp Counselor is responsible for supervising children along with planning, organizing, and implementing day to day sports Activities.

Requirements

  • Valid CPR, First Aid, AED (Pediatric and Adult) Certifications.
  • Must be able to work the entire duration of the summer.
  • Ability to swim.
  • Know developmentally appropriate sports activities for the age of the children.
  • General knowledge of rules and equipment for a variety of sports.
  • Ability to maintain positive and effective working relationships with other employees.
  • Effective leadership skills.
  • Good knowledge of pertinent safety precautions.
  • 16 years of age or older is preferred
  • One to three years’ experience working with children.
  • Previous athletic participation or athletic coaching a must.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise children ranging from ages 6-11.
  • Create weekly lesson plans that include theme days, sports competitions, and other activities.
  • Maintain a commitment to the development of each child’s self esteem by providing a safe, fun, and nurturing environment through age appropriate activities, sports, and games.
  • Be present and on time to camp every day.
  • Swim and be with the children at all times when at the pool.
  • Displays the ability to stay calm in stressful situations.
  • Attend all weekly staff meetings and other required training/events that are scheduled after normal working hours.
  • Be enthusiastic – you are a role model.
  • Performs the job safely and in compliance with district policies, procedures, work and safety rules.
  • Be familiar with the safe operation of any equipment necessary in accomplishing required t asks.
  • Playing, coaching, and/or officiating sports games throughout the day
  • Setup and clean up of sports equipment
  • Supervising and helping children on field trips.
  • Must work closely with co-workers and communicate any special needs or considerations.
  • Able to work under stressful situations when First Aid or CPR is required, including the ability to respond quickly and accurately to any and all emergencies.
