About The Position

At the Y, our mission is to put Christian principles into practice through programs that build healthy spirit, mind and body for all. Join our Greater Cleveland YMCA team in living our cause and helping to provide quality, safe and healthy programs and services in our community. POSITION SUMMARY: Provides direct supervision of a group of children in a seasonal day camp. Creates positive, nurturing relationships with children, while building cooperative relationships with parents/caregivers. Promotes and supports the potential of all youth in programs and facilitates peer-to-peer connections as part of the overall camp experience.

Requirements

  • High school Diploma or GED required.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • Must complete concussion training prior to working in a sports related activity
  • CPR and First Aid certification and Safety training required within 30 days of hire.
  • Must receive ODJFS (Ohio Department of Job and Family Services) licensing certification within 30 days of hire.
  • Demonstrate commitment to the mission, cause of the YMCA, and uphold its values and ethics.
  • Ability to work effectively work with people of different backgrounds, abilities, opinions and perceptions.
  • Willingness and ability to be a mandated reporter for any signs or suspicion of child abuse and neglect. All employees are required to follow the child abuse and neglect reporting process.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous experience working or participating in any sports program.
  • Previous work experience working with children is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure the safety of the children enrolled in the program.
  • Document and respond to all participate incidents.
  • Maintain essential records and attendance sheets.
  • Complete required reports.
  • Maintain current certifications in First Aid, CPR, and BBP Bloodborne Pathogens.
  • Provide guidance and assistance during activities.
  • Prepare/ follow assigned curriculum.
  • Maintain discipline of children.
  • Ensure necessary supplies, including First Aid, BBP protective equipment.
  • Maintain rapport with parents and participants.
  • Ability to read, write, and understand written directions
  • Other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
