About The Position

At Hudson Guild, our COMPASS after-school program is seeking a passionate and energetic Sports Activity Specialist to lead engaging sports and recreational activities for students in grades K–5. The ideal candidate understands that sports are more than just games, they are tools for youth development, character building, and community connection. This role plays a vital part in creating a safe, structured, and inclusive environment where young people can remain physically active, strengthen social skills, and build self-confidence. The Sports Activity Specialist will foster teamwork, leadership, resilience, and positive peer interactions while ensuring that every child, regardless of skill level, feels valued and supported. As a key member of the Chelsea-Elliot/ CRC programs at Hudson Guild, the Sports Activity Specialist will help promote healthy lifestyles, reinforce positive behavior, and serve as a mentor and role model. By creating meaningful and engaging experiences, this position contributes to a program culture that supports not only physical growth but also social-emotional development and a strong sense of belonging within the community. Requirements

  • Experience working with elementary-aged children required.
  • Background in coaching, recreation, physical education, or youth development preferred.
  • Strong in lesson planning, group management, and communication skills.
  • CPR/First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain).
  • Reliable, positive, and committed to serving the community.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and facilitate structured sports and physical activities for elementary-aged youth.
  • Teach fundamental skills in sports such as basketball, soccer, kickball, group games, and fitness activities.
  • Foster teamwork, leadership, and positive sportsmanship.
  • Create an inclusive environment that supports youth of varying abilities and backgrounds.
  • Ensure student safety through active supervision and adherence to program policies.
  • Set up, maintain, and organize equipment and activity spaces.
  • Support positive behavior using youth development best practices.
  • Maintain athletic equipment, and collaborate with program staff.
