About The Position

Get ready for action-packed fun during YMCA Sportopia Camp! This exciting camp offers a dynamic mix of sports, games, and activities that will keep campers moving, learning, and making new friends. From flag football to pickleball, skateboarding to rock climbing, there’s something for every young athlete to enjoy. As a Program Leader, you’ll have the opportunity to guide campers in developing athletic skills, improving coordination, and learning the fundamentals of various sports—all while promoting sportsmanship, teamwork, and having an incredible time! As a Program Leader, you’ll help create a positive, energetic atmosphere where kids have fun, stay active, and build lasting memories. Requirements

  • Must be 18 years or older.
  • Previous experience working with children in a recreational, educational, or sports leadership role is preferred.
  • Enthusiastic, responsible, and dependable.
  • Ability to lead and facilitate a variety of sports activities, including team sports, outdoor games, and physical fitness challenges.
  • Strong communication skills with both children and adults.
  • Comfortable with hands-on activities, encouraging teamwork, and fostering sportsmanship.

Responsibilities

  • Lead & Supervise: Independently lead and supervise children in both small and large group sports activities, including flag football, pickleball, skateboarding, rock climbing, and more!
  • Facilitate Sports & Games: Plan and lead a variety of sports activities, focusing on the fundamentals, teamwork, and sportsmanship.
  • Encourage Active Play: Foster an environment where campers stay active, learn new athletic skills, and have fun with their peers.
  • Ensure Safety: Follow YMCA program standards, including safety procedures for all activities and ensuring a clean and safe camp environment.
  • Positive Guidance: Provide positive guidance and support to campers, using natural consequences in line with YMCA policies to encourage growth, discipline, and respect.
  • Work with Volunteers: Lead and support Program Aides and Volunteers to ensure a smooth and positive camp experience for all participants.
  • Record Keeping: Help maintain attendance records and other required documentation for camp.
  • Attend Trainings & Meetings: Participate in staff meetings, training sessions, and other required events to stay up to date on YMCA policies and best practices.
  • Be Flexible & Reliable: Be punctual for all shifts and flexible to accommodate schedule changes, including full days when necessary.
