About The Position

The Sponsored Award Accountant position at the University of Minnesota is a key role within the Clinical Neuroscience Administrative Center's finance team. This position serves as a subject matter expert in financial, accounting, and analytical support for awarded sponsored projects across various departments, including Neurology, Neurosurgery, Rehab Med, and Psychiatry. The role involves partnering with principal investigators and administrative staff, preparing financial reports, monitoring compliance, and managing data related to sponsored projects.

Requirements

  • BA/BS in accounting, finance, or business administration with at least four years of relevant experience, or equivalent education and experience totaling eight years.
  • Strong technical, problem-solving, and process improvement skills.
  • Ability to gather, organize, and present data effectively.
  • Excellent customer service skills and critical thinking abilities.
  • Proficiency in Word, Excel, and Adobe.

Nice To Haves

  • Current or past grant-related work in an academic setting.
  • Understanding of federal and University regulations governing research.
  • Familiarity with Clinical Research and/or Clinical Trials.
  • Experience with University systems such as PeopleSoft HRMS, EFS, UM Reports, ECRT, and MN-GEMS.

Responsibilities

  • Partner with principal investigators and administrative staff to provide financial support on sponsored projects.
  • Liaise between principal investigators and various administrative departments to interpret policy and procedural requirements.
  • Advise on administrative requests to sponsors, including re-budget requests and no-cost extensions.
  • Prepare ad hoc, monthly, and annual financial reports for principal investigators, including detailed financial analysis.
  • Facilitate meetings with principal investigators to discuss award status and accounting matters.
  • Monitor awards for compliance concerns and process necessary corrections in a timely manner.
  • Manage data in the awards database and represent the Center on various committees.
