About The Position

This role is ideal for a commercial banking focused professional with portfolio management experience in a sponsor‑focused environment. The Associate will lead credit underwriting and portfolio monitoring processes in accordance with bank policies, and exhibit sound credit principles in line with BMO’s risk appetite

Requirements

• 3-5 years of commercial lending or related experience.
• Bachelor’s degree required; Finance, Business, Economics or Accounting preferred.
• Knowledge of fund finance and private equity fundamentals.
• Strong analytical skills with the ability to review and recommend complex credit structures.
• Ability to receive, internalize, and apply feedback with professionalism, using guidance constructively to support continuous growth and improved outcomes.

Responsibilities

• Review credit structures, assess risk, and provide clear, well‑reasoned recommendations to Credit.
• Prepare concise and accurate credit correspondence that clearly reflects deal structures, key risks, mitigants, and sponsor considerations.
• Identify, analyze, and articulate sources of repayment and structural concerns.
• Monitor borrower performance and identify trends, escalating issues as appropriate.
• Conduct periodic and ad hoc credit reviews where enhanced monitoring is warranted.
• Adhere to internal credit policies to manage and minimize risk exposure.
• Assist Relationship Manager in structuring, proposing, and negotiating loan terms.
• Support execution of strategic and operational initiatives in collaboration with internal and external stakeholders .
• Build and maintain effective working relationships across the organization and with clients.
• Independently manage complex credit facilities, including specialized or non‑standard structures.
• Participate in client meetings and contribute to relationship planning by identifying potential sales opportunities.
• Maintain a strong customer service orientation and openness to performance feedback.
• Broader work or accountabilities may be assigned as needed.
