The Splicer - Level 3 at HHS Construction, a Congruex company, is responsible for splicing and activating fiber optic cables. This role involves leading splicing operations on-site, ensuring the installation and testing of fiber optic networks, and managing after-hour outages. The position requires a strong understanding of fiber optics and the ability to work in various environments, including indoor and outdoor settings.

  • Travel to and from job sites
  • Fusion splice SM ribbon and loose tube fiber optic cables, including terminating various types of fiber optic connectors (ST, SC, LC)
  • Install and test pressurized and non-pressurized closures on all types and sizes of cable
  • Analyze and troubleshoot basic technical problems or issues
  • Review, interpret, and work with various maps, drawings, blueprints, and testing documents
  • Perform daily tests, checks, and maintenance of splicing and testing equipment
  • Perform optical continuity and conformance testing
  • Make splicing rearrangements on existing facilities in buried, underground, aerial, and building work locations
  • Manage after-hour outages and coordinate construction crews and subcontractors for timely project completion
  • Adhere to all company policies, procedures, standards, and safety rules
  • Comply with all state and federal laws and regulations at all times
  • Perform other duties as needed and directed
  • Valid driver's license with a clean driving record
  • OSHA 10 certification
  • First aid/CPR certification
  • Minimum of 5 years experience in prepping and splicing ribbon fiber sized up to 864 fibers
  • Minimum of 5 years experience prepping and splicing loose tube fiber of all sizes
  • Minimum of 5 years experience installing, maintaining/repairing, and testing fiber optic networks, including bi-directional tests
  • Previous underground utility experience
  • Working knowledge of various fusion splicing and optical testing equipment including Alcoa Fujikura, GN Net Test, EXFO, Fitel, Sumitomo, and Viavi
  • Ability to operate a bucket truck
  • Ability to read job documents and execute work safely and efficiently
  • Basic understanding of Outlook, Excel, and Word
  • Ability to read, review, interpret, and understand technical documents
  • Experience in the telecom, utility, construction, and/or engineering industry
