Actual pay decision based on factors including experience, skills and training $74,547-$80,510 per year DOE. The Spiritual Care Director provides and coordinates worship services, pastoral counseling, and spiritual support for residents, families, and staff in alignment with the community’s mission and values. This role promotes holistic care and supports psychosocial well-being in Assisted Living (RCFE), and, if applicable, Skilled Nursing Facility (SNF) and Independent Living settings.

Requirements

  • Demonstrates a deep understanding and passion for serving older adults, particularly those experiencing cognitive challenges.
  • Culturally sensitive and able to support individuals of all or no religious backgrounds.
  • Skilled in counseling residents and families on end-of-life issues, grief, and emotional challenges.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with a collaborative and professional work ethic.
  • Demonstrates excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to build meaningful connections across diverse personalities in a multi-cultural environment.
  • Highly adaptable, with the ability to prioritize, make informed decisions under pressure, and adjust to changing assignments, workloads, and schedules with a positive attitude.
  • Experienced in managing volunteers and developing or expanding spiritual care programs.
  • Knowledgeable about dementia and able to provide spiritually appropriate support to individuals with cognitive impairments.
  • Familiar with healthcare settings and attuned to the emotional and spiritual needs of older adults.
  • Understands and adheres to regulatory standards applicable to RCFE, and SNF settings if applicable.
  • Willing to comply with health and safety protocols, including vaccinations, screenings, testing, and PPE use as required by regulations.
  • Master of Divinity or related theological degree preferred.
  • Completion of at least two units of Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) preferred.
  • Minimum 2 years of experience providing spiritual care to older adults in senior living, healthcare, hospice, or related settings.
  • Active participant in a faith community.
  • Current First Aid and CPR certification

  • Supervisory experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and lead worship services, religious observances, memorials, and end-of-life rituals.
  • Provide individual and group pastoral counseling to residents and families, addressing grief, loss, life transitions, and spiritual needs.
  • Partner with Life Enrichment and other departments to incorporate religious and spiritual events into the community calendar.
  • Collaborate with external faith leaders to support diverse spiritual needs (e.g., rabbis, priests, ministers).
  • Support residents receiving palliative or hospice care and coordinate with hospice providers.
  • If applicable, participate in interdisciplinary care planning and document pastoral visits in resident charts per SNF standards and Title 22 requirements.
  • Educate and assist residents and families in understanding and completing Advance Directives.
  • Provide support during resident transitions, including move-ins, hospital discharges, and end-of-life care.
  • Maintain confidentiality and uphold residents’ dignity and rights in accordance with California regulations.
  • Promote relationships with external faith communities and religious organizations.
  • Recruit, train, and supervise pastoral care volunteers or chaplains, if needed.
  • Participate as a member of the community leadership team.
  • Offer spiritual education opportunities on topics such as ethics, grief, or interfaith understanding.
  • Assist Life Enrichment teams with resident engagement and activities, when appropriate.
  • Maintain knowledge of and compliance with applicable RCFE and, if applicable, SNF regulations related to pastoral and psychosocial care.
  • Promote the Mission, Vision and Values of Transforming Age in all areas of responsibility, and demonstrate commitment to Culture of Excellence and strategic goals
