About The Position

The Spiritual Care Associate at Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children's Hospital of Chicago is responsible for providing exceptional spiritual care to patients, families, and staff from diverse spiritual and religious traditions. This part-time role involves advising on best practices, leading services, and ensuring personalized care that respects all traditions. The associate will work closely with chaplains and participate in departmental meetings to enhance the spiritual care provided within the hospital.

Requirements

  • Master's degree or higher in a field related to their spiritual or religious tradition.
  • One unit of Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) preferred, but not required.
  • Spiritual Care experience in local community, hospital, prison, or other settings.
  • Excellent communication, critical thinking, and interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work as part of multiple teams.
  • Ability to speak a language(s) in addition to English strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Advise and educate Spiritual Care on best practices to support patients, families, and staff from their tradition.
  • Provide recommendations regarding days of special significance, dietary practices, and resource needs aligned with their tradition.
  • Lead services, participate in panel discussions, and provide education about their tradition as requested.
  • Follow up on referrals from chaplains with visits for patients, loved ones, and staff who affiliate with their tradition.
  • Provide appropriate resources and rituals requested by patients, loved ones, or staff.
  • Communicate with on-call chaplain before and after each visit.
  • Participate in spiritual care departmental meetings at least twice a year.
  • Model the values of the hospital in all interactions and perform job functions with a focus on excellence and teamwork.
  • Show respect for all spiritual and religious traditions, even those outside of their own specific tradition.
  • Work as an employee at the hospital only at the request of chaplains and visit only requested patients.
