Advanced Transducer Development (ATD) is responsible for developing recording head technology for Seagate's HDD (Hard Disk Drive) products to be introduced 4+ years beyond the current state of the art. The Recording Head Design, Test, and Analysis group is responsible for providing best-in-class characterization and analysis in support of ATD's mission, with additional targeted support provided for HAMR new product integration.

  • Perform measurements to understand Heat-Assisted Magnetic Recording (HAMR) and next generation recording failure mechanisms
  • Establish best-practice methods and standards for component analysis for worldwide adoption
  • Provide physical insight into recording dynamics of new transducer and media designs
  • Lead discussions on new observed physics and provide hypotheses for the underlying effects
  • Explore stress testing of new failure modes to improve test predictability
  • Translate between spinstand and similar drive tests - provide recommendations of new test algorithms to drive from component learning
  • Work with spinstand development teams to improve on existing hardware and software and in the development of next generation spinstand capabilities
  • Explore new recording modes
  • Demonstrated understanding of magnetic recording
  • Downstream failure analysis
