About The Position

Qualis LLC is seeking a SPIE Systems Engineer in support of the Marshall Space Flight Center in Huntsville, AL. This position will provide technical leadership as well as systems engineering and integration support to the Systems Planning and Technical Leadership Branch (EV71) in support of the Spacecraft Payload Integration & Evolution (SPIE) Lead Systems Engineer (LSE) team. Essential Duties: Coordinate and interface with SPIE project team personnel, MSFC engineering organizations (Branches, Divisions, and Departments), personnel at other NASA Centers and Agencies, technical/discipline leads, SPIE Prime Contractors, and other stakeholder project teams and personnel. Participate in reviews, meetings, TIMs, technical performance meetings, teleconferences, working groups, and trade studies. Employ proven systems engineering and project management processes and techniques. Provide support and expertise to trade studies, assessments, and independent analyses to enable the development of recommendations in areas such as systems engineering processes, systems engineering and technical and management questions, issues, risks affecting the performance and management processes. Perform systems engineering assessments of technical documentation including Change Requests (CRs), Requirements Change Notices (RCN), LCC Change Notices (LCN), Work Authorization Documents (WAD), and Deviation Approval Requests (DAR). Coordinate the assignments of technical documentation reviews/assessments to the SPIE LSE team. Coordinate and track Data Exchange (DEx) agreements between the SPIE Element and SLS/SLS contractors. Provide support associated with programmatic processes and documentation, process definition, and other systems engineering management and planning functions. Provide technical review of artifacts and/or support the setup and administration for milestone reviews. Lead and/or facilitate complex tasks, including task teams, data agreements, change package reviews, and trade studies as well as independently manage subtasks with minimum government oversight.

Requirements

  • A bachelor’s degree in aerospace, mechanical, industrial, or systems engineering or a related field from an accredited university is required. Typically, educational requirements are the equivalent of a BS with at least 10 years of experience or a master’s degree with at least 8 years of experience.
  • Leading and applying systems engineering processes and principals.
  • Experience developing and/or documenting/updating requirements, processes, and/or procedures associated with aerospace flight and ground hardware design, development, production, test, verification, evaluation, integration, and/or operations.
  • Ability to interface and collaborate with all levels of engineering and project management with the ability to lead and influence for consensus.
  • Ability to use program planning tools and management databases.
  • Experience in systems integration and interface definition in hardware design, development, test, integration, and/or operations.
  • Demonstrated experience and skills negotiating and collaborating to resolve complex technical problems.
  • Demonstrated skill breaking down complex problems or issues into manageable pieces.
  • Excellent written and oral technical communication skills – must be able to clearly define and describe a technical subject to peers across various engineering disciplines.
  • Demonstrated experience and skills developing and delivering project-level briefings.
  • Intermediate skills using Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams & Outlook).

Nice To Haves

  • An understanding and knowledge of the current SLS program.
  • A working understanding of the SPIE interfaces and sub-elements.
  • Experience supporting Space Shuttle, International Space Station (ISS), Commercial Crew, or Expendable Launch Vehicle (ELV) programs.
  • Experience reading and working with engineering drawings, interface control documents, configuration documents, and/or other technical documentation.
  • Experience in launch vehicle technical project management or project planning.
  • Familiarity with NASA Systems Engineering policies and procedures related to technical management.
