Speech Therapists who work at InspireNOLA see an opportunity to have a positive impact on the lives of students and families by addressing the unique needs of students who exhibit challenges with daily communication due to disorders in the areas of language, articulation, fluency and voice. Speech therapists support these students by creating a safe space to build new language skills. They positively motivate students with disabilities to develop appropriate attitudes, and knowledge; and utilize a variety of instructional techniques appropriate to students’ abilities; and maintain a warm and nurturing learning environment.

  • Screen students to identify those with a speech/language disorder;
  • Develop Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) for identified students, which include long term goals and short term objectives, to meet the individual needs of each child identified with a disorder;
  • Design treatment strategies to help the child best meet the goals and objectives stated in the IEP;
  • Conduct speech/language therapy services according to frequency and duration as indicated in the IEP in a group and/or individual session(s);
  • Focus speech therapy on remediating the area of the area(s) of student deficit, as well as incorporating information learned in the class setting, while providing stimulation to increase communication skills;
  • Communicate and consult with school team members and student families/support providers;
  • Explain and interpret speech assessment services and evaluation findings to parents, teachers, principals and other appropriate personnel.
  • Maintain accurate and confidential records of all speech therapy-related supports;
  • Generate a speech progress report every quarter;
  • Attend professional development activities related to the improvement of speech therapy techniques at the local and state levels as needed.
  • Belief in the mission and values of InspireNOLA;
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Speech/Language Pathology required; (Master’s degree strongly preferred);
  • Certification as a Speech/Language Pathologist (preferred);
  • Licensed in Louisiana as a Speech/Language Pathologist by the Louisiana Board of Examiners for Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology;
  • Minimum of 2-5 years of demonstrated success as a speech therapist, preferably in a K-12 school setting;
  • Possesses excellent organizational & communication skills;
  • Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with school administrators, colleagues, parents, & students.
