About The Position

To provide professional service through which pupils having speech, language, and/or hearing disorders may be helped to more effectively respond to academic training

Requirements

  • Master’s degree and/or public school Type A or B Level Certification in Speech Pathology
  • Valid license issued by the Louisiana Board of Examiners for Speech Pathology and Audiology

Responsibilities

  • To provide speech/language screening assessment of public school students
  • To become familiar with each assigned student’s specific evaluation strengths and deficits as evidenced by the child’s comprehensive evaluation and IEP information
  • To prepare and maintain in the classroom daily lesson plans which shall promote systematic growth in fundamental knowledge and skills
  • To establish student long range goals yearly with short term objectives to be developed during the year on the school’s regular reporting period and documented on the IEP
  • To prepare and schedule a specific number of instructional periods for each child as needed and indicated on the IEP
  • To assess and evaluate each student’s progress on a regular basis
  • To make provision for individual differences by such means as using effective grouping procedures, individualized instruction and utilizing a variety of materials on the student’s level
  • To create and maintain a physical environment that is conducive to learning including attractive and meaningful bulletin boards, appropriate seating arrangements, cleanliness and orderliness
  • To demonstrate an understanding of child growth and development respecting the individuality of each child
  • To follow the time schedule of the school being served
  • To sign in and out of school on appropriate forms
  • To meet with parents and/or teachers to promote or effect language learning in children, when appropriate
  • To be responsible for attending any administrative and/or professional meetings called by the home-based principal
  • To notify principals and the Special Education office in case of absence from work
  • To account for the care of assigned speech therapy materials
  • To be accurate and neat in completing required records and reports and turning these in promptly
  • To maintain control, promote self-discipline, and manage time efficiently
  • To attend inservice workshops as mandated by local policies or legislative acts
  • To contribute to and participate in activities or organizations which foster professional growth whenever possible
  • To promote the educational process as evidenced by the sharing of ideas and materials of other staff members
  • To maintain and exhibit a positive attitude about the possibility for growth and development of all students
  • To observe standards of conduct demonstrating integrity and dependability and observing confidentiality
  • To set a good example by personal appearance in accordance with parish dress code
  • To maintain self-control and pose and demonstrate ability to adjust to new situations showing effectiveness under pressure
  • To accept responsibility commensurate with assigned tasks meeting obligations to students and staff
  • To establish and execute a professional growth and self-evaluation plan
  • To work effectively with school personnel and staff
  • To consistently demonstrate self-direction
  • To submit accurate records and reports promptly
  • To exhibit professional ethics
  • To foster open communication and positive relationships with school personnel and staff

  • To perform any other duties or responsibilities not listed as delegated by the Principal or designated person
