About The Position

The Speech/Language Pathologist evaluates and provides treatment for patients exhibiting speech, language, cognitive and/or swallowing disorders. Collaborates as an integral member with interdisciplinary treatment team. Apply a wide variety of techniques for rehabilitation of speech, language, dysphagia, hearing, and oral motor disorders. Demonstrates consideration and concern, and inspires confidence when interacting with patients, family members, visitors, members of the medical staff or other employees. Perform duties in a manner consistent with GSHCS mission.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree or equivalent from an accredited program of Speech/Language Pathology.
  • Certificate of Clinical Competence from American Speech-Language Hearing Association.
  • Current Oregon speech pathology license.
  • Current BLS certification.
  • No prior experience required.

Nice To Haves

  • Minimum of two (2) years of previous work experience, hospital experience preferred but not required.
  • CFYs could be accepted.
  • Experience with both adults and pediatrics. Pediatrics is highly preferred.
  • Feeding and dysphagia skills are a bonus.
  • Familiar with EPIC but not required.

Responsibilities

  • Represents GSHCS in a professional manner while performing job duties for patients, physicians, visitors and/or other staff members as evidenced by appropriate language, dress, and conduct.
  • Participates in the Performance Improvement Process. Maintains quality and efficiency standards as set by the immediate supervisor and makes recommendations for improvements.
  • Participate in activities that promote professional growth and self-development.
  • Attends pertinent in-services as required, departmental meetings, and other hospital development training or meetings as requested by GSHS.
  • Adheres to GSHCS professional dress code. Wears Identification badge.
  • Is reliable when following work schedule.
  • Identifies work-related problems with possible solutions and implements solution(s) when appropriate.
  • Maintains a constant awareness of the legal aspects of position and demonstrates this in decisions related to job performance issues.
  • Performs evaluations and treatments for both pediatric and adult populations. Is familiar with the most common tests and techniques for each population.
  • Has inpatient experience as well as outpatient experience.
  • Remains current with most recent research and training in speech and language pathology as well as swallow therapy.
  • Able to locate and follow policies and procedures as stated for GSHS.
  • Is familiar with and able to complete documentation in SOAP note format.
  • Maintains and demonstrates a thorough knowledge of Speech/Language Pathology department safety policies and procedures as they pertain to the job, including the fire and disaster plans.
  • Maintains a safe environment for patients, guests, and staff.
  • Understands and follows HIPPA standards.
  • Able to communicate in writing and verbally with families as well as professionals in a polite professional manner.
  • Able to communicate clearly and professionally in public settings and meetings.
  • Establishes a therapeutic presence by using People-Centered Team skills of differentiation, compassionate listening, and knowledge of the change/transition process in situations involving emotions, life/death transition, and/or conflict.
  • Maintains harmonious and cooperative relations with physicians, nursing staff, patients, and guests.
  • Attend hospital departmental meetings, as appropriate, regarding continuation and coordination of patient care.
  • Participate in coordinated care sessions and decisions.
  • Supports the hospital mission, vision, values, policies, and procedures.
  • Demonstrates ICARE standards in all interactions.
  • Follows given work schedule, documenting time worked efficiently, as well as requesting time off in a timely manner.
  • The employee supports the hospital mission, vision, values, policies, and procedures.
  • Participates in required education for DNV programs as applicable to position (reference program education curriculum).
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
