About The Position

Vantage Point Behavioral Health Hospital is hiring a Speech Therapist to be a part of our fast-paced and dedicated, innovative team. This position is a 1099 Contractor role. The individual engaged for this role will provide services under a contractual agreement and is responsible for compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local laws governing independent contractors. Contractor Requirements include maintaining current professional liability (malpractice) insurance and providing proof of coverage, maintaining all required Arkansas licensure, certifications, and continuing education necessary to perform services, operating as an independently established professional and retaining control over the manner and means of performing services, subject to applicable clinical, ethical, and regulatory requirements. The contractor is not eligible for employee benefits, including but not limited to health insurance, paid leave, retirement plans, workers’ compensation, or unemployment insurance, and is solely responsible for all federal and Arkansas state taxes, including self‑employment taxes.

Requirements

  • Master's degree from an accredited college or university in Speech Language Pathology or similar, as required by the state and acceptable for licensure required.
  • Current active professional license or eligible for endorsement by the state in which the facility provides services.
  • CPR and de-escalation/restraint certification required (training available upon hire and offered by facility).
  • First aid may be required based on state or facility.

Nice To Haves

  • One or more years’ experience working with population of the facility preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Evaluate patients’ levels of speech, language or swallowing difficulty and identify treatment options.
  • Create and carry out an individualized treatment plan that addresses patient specific functional needs.
  • Teach children and adults how to make sounds and improve their voice and maintain fluency.
  • Help individuals improve vocabulary and sentence structure used in oral and written language.
  • Work with children and adults to develop and strengthen the muscles used to swallow.
  • Counsel individuals and families on how to cope with communication and swallowing disorder.
  • Administer hearing or speech and language evaluations, tests or examinations to patients to collect information on type and degree of impairments, using written or oral tests or special instruments.
  • Educate patients and family members about various topics, such as communication techniques or strategies to cope with or to avoid personal misunderstandings.
  • Demonstrate a positive, empathetic and professional attitude towards customers always. When patient needs are not met, acknowledge and work to resolve complaints. Recognize that patient safety is a top priority.
  • Perform other functions and tasks as assigned.
