Requirements

  • Master's Degree in Speech Pathology.
  • Certificate of Clinical Competence awarded by the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association.
  • Licensed in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.
  • Adheres to the Professional Code of Ethics of the ASHA.
  • Maintains current CPR certification.
  • Demonstrates current clinical competency.
  • Good interpersonal and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry.
  • Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
  • Basic computer skills.
  • Ability to apply principles of logical or scientific thinking to a wide range of intellectual and practical problems.
  • Ability to deal with nonverbal symbolism (formulas, scientific equations, graphs, musical notes, etc.,) in its most difficult phases.
  • Ability to deal with a variety of abstract and concrete variables.

Nice To Haves

  • One to two years experience with swallowing disorders preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Administers diagnostic testing procedures to determine the extent of patient's impairment and the prognosis for improvement. Identifies pertinent patient problems.
  • Sets objective, measurable treatment goals incorporating patient's goal for functional outcome. Establishes a treatment plan based on patient needs and patient family input.
  • Performs treatment procedures and adapts techniques to meet the needs of patients. Reevaluates patients, modifies treatment plan and procedures based on patient progress.
  • Provides objective, analytic documentation of patient care, patient/family education and information regarding units of service. Communicates effectively with medical/allied health personnel regarding patient progress, needs, and discharge planning.
  • Participates in quality improvement, program evaluation, environmental and infection control programs.
  • Trains new personnel as required, assists the Manager with on the job training.
  • Provides guidance and direction to PTAs aides and affiliating students.
  • Enhances professional growth and development through approved participation in educational programs, current literature, in-service meetings, and workshops. Participates in appropriate in-service educational programs.
  • Attends meetings as required.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned or requested.
